Playa Quieta

Indulge in a day of relaxed beach fun at this rugged but serene stretch of sand just outside of Ixtapa. This is the perfect destination for a family trip.

If you’re looking for a beautiful, quintessentially Mexican beach then look no further than Playa Quieta in Ixtapa. This sweeping expanse of golden sand, fringed by palm trees, is a tranquil and relatively undeveloped stretch of coastline where you can while away the days lazing under the hot sun. Take the whole family and enjoy a leisurely day of simple beach pleasures.

Playa Quieta is free of noisy restaurants and mass tourism. Swim in the warm, clear waters or take shelter from the sun under the trees. Try your hand at kayaking along the picturesque shoreline, give windsurfing a go in the gentle conditions or learn how to sail your very own catamaran sailboat. Along the beach are watersports stores where you can rent equipment.

For something less energetic, there are massage centers where you can leave your stresses behind and pamper yourself. Or, simply lounge in a beach chair with a good book and feel the sand between your toes. Bring a picnic and stay late into the evening to enjoy the spectacular sunset and watch as the sun dips behind the ocean in a glow of red and orange.

Playa Quieta is located 10 miles (16 kilometers) from the center of Ixtapa. Buses will stop close by the entrance, which is through a side street leading off the highway.
