Several years ago my husband and I stayed at an Old World Inn in Napa during an anniversary trip and we had good memories from that stay. I don’t know if this is the same Old World Inn as the last time, but the experience was not the same. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still cute and quaint and the property is very well kept, but for me it lacked the same warmth and personalization you usually expect when choosing a b&b over a chain hotel. Several other b&bs in Napa have some sort of evening wine hour or afternoon cookies. Even just a small glass of wine for guests since we’re in wine country of all places, would have been nice. Last time we stayed, I remember finding a bottle of wine and a nice ‘happy anniversary’ note waiting for us in our room and for me that was very sweet and memorable. Check-in is now contactless since Covid, so when finding your way inside the house and to your room, it kind of feels cold not having anyone welcome you or show you around. The living room and dining area is very nicely set up, but breakfast wasn’t anything special. I believe it was a couple of microwaved things and some cut up fruit. I will say though, the innkeeper is very kind if you have a chance to interact with her. Overall, the experience was nice for one night but not what we were expecting. I’m not sure what changed over the years, but maybe they had to pull back because of Covid. Either way, without the small touches of a warm b&b, you might as well choose a hotel.
