"It is "Historic" like the name says"
This hotel has real history behind it and was a welcome way to get away from the usual. The mattresses need to be replaced (we were in two rooms and they were low quality in both). However, the history, the staff, and the complimentary breakfast were wonderful. Everything in Alaska is expensive so this was actually a good price even if it is high compared to continental US.

"We've stayed at the Residence Inn during the past 4 summers, all previous visits longer than this one. We enjoy staying there."
Though this is still a good place to stay, the food quality was not quite as high as during previous 4 years. The hotel probably needs an update in refurbishing, but it was clean and the grounds very tidy. We'd stay again, and assume the little upgrades are on there way.

"Nice hotel for the price"
I was leery about staying here because so many people complained about it, but I really had a decent experience and I have nothing to complain about. I stayed here on two separate nights, 8/25/12 and 9/3/12. Both days my room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I even tore back the sheets to look for bedbugs because some other review complained about them, but I found none. I used the 24-hour shuttle to get to and from the airport, and that worked out perfectly (it’s about a 15 minute drive). I even thought that I would have problems getting to the airport because I had to leave at 3am to catch a 5am flight, but again, there were no problems. Although I didn’t have a chance to wander to downtown Anchorage, I specifically chose this hotel because it was cheaper than other hotels and it was within walking distance of downtown (what I considered doable walking distance). I thought this hotel had a lot of character because it appears to be an old apartment building that they turned into a hotel. You can tell that the decorations and colors are somewhat dated, but seriously, if you’re going to complain about something as trivial as that then probably no hotel can accommodate your high maintenance needs. I kept ‘waiting’ for all these bad things to happen that people were complaining about in other reviews, and nothing happened! I liked this hotel and if I ever get a chance to visit Anchorage again I would definitely stay here.

"Great for my needs"
I am very satisfied (I mean very very) with my stay. I stayed there three nights. Shuttle service is great. Breakfast is just short of great (small styrofoam cups instead of cups you can carry with lids), but good hot breakfast. The room I had was amazing. Wi Fi is free. It is a very wholesome place for it's price in Alaska. It is a former Quality Inn, and recently has become privately owned with a changed name. The biggest concern I have is ( and this is a statement for the management to think seriously about, if at all they will read this review): I have never seen a more disengaged and disinterested staff , including janitors, front desk, drivers. This is not be mistaken with poor service, each of them does exacly what they are supposed to do, and are rather helpful, but everybody seems to be lacking energe and seems to be forced to do their job. It affects my person-to-person experience, but it's just me. I am a very greeting/warmth/welcoming gesture driven person. But again it's just me. Overall great bang for the buck.

"Good location, good digs, good service!"
The service was really good.  When after the second day my key card quit working, it was easily turned back on.  The little extras were a plus - a free newspaper some mornings, free cookies, free wifi, free breakfast brought to your room and free parking.  The ONE downside to parking was that it was at the other end of the same block and you had to renew your parking pass each day as it was only written for exactly 24-hours from the time you got it.  Navigating around 2nd to 3rd street can be a little confusing, but really I think it was easier than navigating some of the one way streets in the 5th and 6th area blocks.  I've stayed at many hotels in downtown Anchorage, but this was my first at the Anchorage Grand Hotel.  I liked the location and felt that while it was a former apartment building that made my queen suite really neat because the bedroom had its own door.  You can hear the train station, but it really isn't any more obtrusive than at any other "nicer" costlier hotel just a block up.  ;)  For the price, the place, and the accommodations I was really pleased and would absolutely choose to stay there again when I need to be downtown Anchorage.
