"While this is an older hotel, it is clean, things are in working order, and rather charming and unique. For example, I had a large room with a small patio that offered a beautiful view of the city. It’s in a quaint quiet town with gorgeous views of the mountains surrounding the town. I appreciated ..."

"The staff is great. Ride from train station & to monkey park were great services. The euro-style restaurant was also good if you need a change from Japanese cuisine. Fantastic espresso drinks (very limited in this area). The bad part was our room, decor & layout. It was tough to have shower on 1st ..."

If you haven’t pre-ordered dinner, they won’t let you order on the spot and there aren’t any restaurant options nearby. Definitely do not stay here in the summer and even if you’re coming ..."

Shibu Hotel
"I truly enjoyed my stay at this Ryokan. The omotenashi (Japanese hospitality) was outstanding from the arrangement of the pick-up at the train station, to the staff having my bags picked upon arrivals and take them to my room while I checked in, to the quality of the traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast included, and let’s not forget about the onsens! They offer an outdoor and and indoor private onsen that you can book in advance for half hour, a huge public outdoor/indoor onsen that you can use anytime from 3pm to 9am, as well as access to all 9 public onsens in the town which you need a key to access. It was fun to do a pilgrimage through all wearing the yukata and wood sandals (be aware that water is usually extremely hot in these!). I also appreciated to know that you are allowed to all this onsens if you have tattoos. The hotel also offers drop-off/pick-up shuttle to the snow monkey park, which I did after checking out and they brought my bags when picking me up to take me to the train station. All in all, a marvelous experience that I will cherish for life."
