Philadelphia is a large but very walkable city. A bike-friendly culture makes being environmentally-friendly easy, too, especially when paired with a ride on the SEPTA or Phlash bus. Regional rail gives you access to outlying areas, as does your own rental car. Taxis and rideshare drivers abound as well.
Like looking at cherry blossoms? Come to Philadelphia in the spring. Like crunching through colorful fall leaves? Come in the fall. Like both? Flip a coin. And if you don't like big crowds and searing heat, try to avoid the summer months, which constitute peak tourist season in the city. Don't get us wrong, it's still a great destination then too; it's just ever so slightly greater in shoulder season, in our opinion.
