Kihei

Picture-perfect beaches, the warmest weather on Maui, and an electric nightlife: whatever you want from a Hawaii vacation, you’ll find it in Kihei.

Everyone knows Hawaii is famous for its beaches, but have you heard about Kihei? This corner of Maui packs in more beaches than you can shake a coconut at, and then provides the best weather on the island for experiencing it. Roll out your beach towel and take up your personal patch of paradise under near-guaranteed sun. The great news is, you aren’t even going to break the bank staying in this budget-friendly part of the island.

Read any list of Kihei attractions and the big names will all be golden stretches of sand along the six miles of coastline. Each one has something to recommend itself. Kalama Beach Park is beloved for its sports grounds and surf spot at The Cove. Take your family to the child-friendly Kamaole I, which comes with lifeguards and shops selling sunscreen (which you’ll need, regularly.)

Even if you aren’t spending a whole day at the beach, they are great places for a walk. Hit Keawakapu Beach in the morning for a gentle stroll among stunning scenery or visit Kamaole III in the evening for an unforgettable sunset.

Whenever you’re by Kihei’s coastline, watch the waters and you might spot humpback whales breaching the water. The best way to see them is to hang out with the experts at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary where there’s a viewing platform and information on the beautiful creatures. Don’t worry if you don’t catch sight of a whale, the totally transparent waters around here are great for scuba diving and snorkeling.

If it sounds like Kihei is just one long patch of unbroken coastal beauty, you aren’t too wrong. That said, there’s more to the region. Head inland to an area known as The Triangle, to find a mix of bars, craft breweries, and some of the best nightlife in Maui.
