Greater flamingo, Prague ZOO

Greater flamingo (Phoenicoptera roseus) is a wonderful bird with strikingly pink beak (with a black tip). It is closely related to American flamingo (which has wild pink orange feathers all over) and Chilean flamingo (its beak is only black and white). The feathers are becoming light pink with the age.

The way this one ruffles his feathers is actually similar to the way they feed themselves with their head positioned up side down with the beak in horizontal position to the water. This way they can filter the plancton in shallow water by pushing their tongue to the beak forcing the water to spill back through the lamels inside and leaving only the desired plancton.

Greater flamingo (Phoenicopterus roseus) is a wonderful bird with strikingly pink beak (with a black tip). It is closely related to American flamingo (which has wild pink orange feathers all over) and Chilean flamingo (its beak is only black and white).
Most of its feathers are pinkish-white becoming more pink with age, but the wing coverts are red and the primary and secondary flight feathers are black.
It was proven that the brain of the flamingo is smaller than his eye.
