"Nice location by the water, but not easily accessible"
The location of the hotel is gorgeous, right by the sea, and you can hear the waves at night. Finding the hotel though, is a different story. We had to take two different trains from Central Rome and one bus to get there. If it wasn't for the nice bus driver we would probably have missed it. It is relatively close to the airport, but it is still fairly expensive to take a cab to the airport (40 Euros or so). We arrived there in early June, and the room temperature was pretty high at night, even with the nice sea breeze. The air in the room was not working, and when we called the front desk, we were informed in a fairly rude tone that the air is not to be turned on until one week later, since it was not yet considered to be summer season. It was a bit uncomfortable to sleep in the heated room. Breakfast was excellent, and included in the price. The croissants were amazing! All and all, still a pleasant stay, and a nice, modern, clean room that you can't get for this price in Central Rome. I would stay there again!

"Off Season Overnight"
Hotel is in Fregene not Fiumicino! This added 2 hours to finding the hotel. We took a bus from the Fregene train stop but ended up in the wrong town and had to work our way back to Fregene. Thirty minutes from airport. A transfer to the airport was 35 euros. We were there only one night but wish we could have stayed three. Since we had to leave early in the morning we missed out on breakfast but coffee and rolls were available. There were not many guests do to the off season so it was relatively quiet. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wish we would have gone on a bike ride. There is a nice path for biking. Beach is a short walk. Had a good long walk with temperature at 70F. Very peaceful in off season but would expect it to be quite crowded and busy in the summertime.

    Rome Beach Hotel Guide

American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne once said, “How is it possible to say an unkind or irreverential word of Rome? The city of all time, and of all the world!” The man had a point because “The Eternal City” is a flame that burns brighter than most because of iconic places like the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Sistine Chapel.

But if wandering the streets of the ancient world’s most glamourous city is only part of your travel agenda and you’re looking to relax under the Italian sun on the shores of the Mediterranean, there are plenty of beaches nearby. Yes, we said beaches near Rome. And when you’re looking for a place to close your eyes while rolling waves break in the background, our beach hotels near Rome are perfect for you. Ciao, Bella!

What are the best beaches near Rome?

While beaches don’t exist in the city proper of Rome, pristine stretches of land along the coastline are nearby and they’re incredible. One minute you’ll be staring in awe at the magnitude of the Colosseum and the next you’ll be living la dolce vita under the Italian sun. Here are a few beaches to take note of:

    • Fregene: Located a mere 25 miles from the capital city, this lively little town is the place to be if you’re looking for fun in the sun. And when said sun tucks itself in for the night, this is one of the better coastal destinations for nightlife. Imagine an afternoon of soaking up the sun and then cooling off at the local watering hole in the evening with a refreshing glass of limoncello.
    • Santa Marinella: A quick 45-mile train ride from Rome’s city center will bring you to the sands of what some people consider the most picturesque beach in the area. This place great for not only swimming and sunbathing, but also some of the tastiest seafood restaurants. We recommend checking out the fish dishes at L’Acqua Marina.
    • Ostia: If you’re staying at the Barcelo Aran Blu, you’ll probably be able to look out your hotel window to the sands of Ostia. Spot your perfect piece of land, grab a beach towel, and lather up from head to toe in sunscreen for a day of rest and relaxation.

Where can I go shopping by the beach near Rome?

The shopping options near Rome beach hotels are vast. Make your way 19 miles to the fishing village of Fiumicino where the Parco Leonardo is located. This modern shopping center is home to some 230 stores that will easily quench your shopping thirst. Everything from high-end fashion products to cheap tourist trinkets are offered here.

If you find yourself in the seaside town of Sperlonga, check out the Giulia Ceramiche for anything and everything fashion. Want a pair of Italian leather loafers? They have them. What about some Versace sunglasses? There are plenty of pairs to choose from.

It doesn’t take much to get you interested in a vacation. Especially when that trip is to one of the most attractive cities on the planet. When you’re ready to venture into the heart of the Italian boot, Travelocity has a great selection of Rome, Italy, beach hotels like the Gran Melia Rome to choose from. Who knew you could visit the Colosseum and be a beach bum on the Mediterranean shore in one day?
