My hotel experience

Pros: Lobby, hallways and elevator were clean. Nice to have coffee and muffins in the lobby. Staff was friendly.
I heard many good things about the hotel. Location was very close to my daughter and grandchildren and the weekend price was very attractive. The carpet on the floor was stained and dirty and had to wear my socks all the time. The headboard was stained, the desk lamp switch didn't work and I had to take off the switch to make it work. Also one of the lights in the shower was burned out. Very strange that there wasn't a mirror in the room. I had to dry my hair in the hallway and pull out the full length mirror. I did let the staff know about the problems in the room and the person told me that they would be renovating the rooms and that I should give them another chance. Too many hotels in NYC to try that it is not one that I would go back to or recommend.

Tough to go wrong with Hyatt

Pros: Appearance, cleanliness, location, safety.
Cons: Climate control, shower entrance.
I got the suite and it was a nice size with nice features. However the climate control didn't exist so the room was way too hot. The room was in the mid 70s every day/night even though I set it to the lowest setting of 60 and had the fan on high. This combined with a bed that was truly uncomfortable made it impossible to get any good rest. It was a "low rider" bed that I don't believe had any box springs with the mattress. The shower does not have a raised lip to separate it from the rest of the room so water easily runs out with each shower. Perfectly clean, safe, good looking place with raised ceilings, but as I described--not comfortable.

Our first time staying at the Andaz.

Pros: Spacious hotel and friendly staff.
Location: We were there for San Gennaro festival but also walked over to South Street Seaport which was very nice.
Very nice hotel with very helpful and friendly staff. Room was spacious and clean. We were there for San Gennaro festival and walked there from the Andaz. We also stopped at the South Street Seaport which was in that area. Free coffee all day and 6 to 7 wind hour was a huge plus. Overall it was a great overnight stay at a great hotel.

Great stay!

First time here, stayed one night and really enjoyed it! Complimentary minibar (minus alcohol) was a nice surprise. The beds could've been softer, can use a full length mirror and a little more lighting- but otherwise, great stay!

Modern and comfortable hotel

Pros: Free breakfast, Free Internet, Quiet
We spent three nights here. We enjoyed breakfast every morning and were gone sight-seeing for most of the day. Loved the gym and snacks in the room. Short walk to 9-11 memorial, statue of liberty and subway station.

Street drilling outside my window after midnight.

Cons: Noisy
This is a nice hotel, but I am literally listening to workers drilling on Water Street right outside my window as I write this. It is 12:30 AM - and I'm told by the hotel that there is nothing that Andaz can do, there's no one they can call. And then the front desk told me that this area often gets random street drilling at night because the city just schedules it for that time. Stay away, the posh interior will do nothing for you if you can't get any sleep at all. NOISY.

Clean, Modern, Excellent Staff - and Surprisingly Good Location

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: No free Internet
I have stayed here numerous times, even though I live only about 45 minutes away in NJ. It has quickly become my favorite hotel in NYC. Apart from the obvious - modern-style hotel, surprisingly big rooms, high standard of cleanliness and one of the better Hyatt hotel restaurants - there is a lot here that should be of interest to any tourist or business traveler. The hotel is walking distance to a lot of things that NYC residents take for granted, but make for fun tourism. Wall Street, South Street Seaport, Battery Park, the Bull Statue, Trinity Church - any of these is an easy walk, and it is also a comfortable walk to Ground Zero/City Hall. Tourists who don't mind a longer walk can also reach Canal Street and Chinatown very easily, in about 30 or so minutes of walking. In the mean time, taxis are abundant in the area and it is only a few blocks to a subway, so you have plenty of options to get yourself to other parts of the city. And when all that's said and done, at night you have the benefit of a 3-minute walk to see the Brooklyn Bridge, or a 10-minute walk (max) to Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty lit up and walk along the Hudson River. It is a relaxing way to have a quieter Manhattan experience at night, while still having great access to the whole city during the day. (You are also very close to Brooklyn, which can be fun for urban explorers). Exceptional restaurants and some nice bars can be found in easy walking distance (Stone Street, St Johns, etc.) as well. Add to that the free soft drinks/water and snacks in your room, and a remarkable staff that seems to actually care about you, and in my opinion you have one of the best hotels in the city.
