The location was convenient but a little confusing since there wasn't a clear sign to get to the hotel. Staff was fine but not exceedingly friendly. Breakfast was little disappointing. The room seemed clean but it smelled really strong of cleaning supplies when entering. The floor seemed weird and lumpy. Slept well tho.

App said 'spa', property only had a sauna. I had some very disappointed travelers with me Room was clean, air worked great, breakfast was a little lacking (no protein, just bread and cereal and waffles and some bananas), but we didn't starve

We had a nice stay here. The staff was courteous and helpful. The room was clean and a good one for a budget motel. Nice soft tissue in the bathroom. The breakfast was definitely bare-bones, and was our only disappointment.

Noisy, but not the worse

Check-in was fast. I needed an accessible room; so the clerk made certain that the room I was given met my needs for proximity to parking and bath requirements. I had arrived after sunset, but no outside lights illuminated the side access door. I couldn't see where to swipe the keycard to open the door. There were also several men gathered just inside the hall entrance that made passing to my room a bit dicey. The room was clean, although it smelled a bit musty. The microwave made an outrageous sound but worked. The desk chair left me fearing I'd be tossed onto the floor, as did the shower stool. The place could definitely use an updating. The noise from other guests and suspected illicit goings on made sleep a bit difficult—especially from the room above where it sounded like someone was holding a rodeo. My stay was for two nights for work, so I left early and came back late. On the second night my key cards didn't work on the outside door. Since my mobility is very limited (I use a folding motorized wheelchair but walk short distances using a cane. It is a major job to load my chair into my car, or unload it and set up it up for use), I ended up pounding on the door with my cane until staff heard and let me in. Nor did the cards work on my room, which the rescuing staff had to open with their master. Overall, my biggest complaint was noisy guests. My greatest compliment, however, is a very caring and friendly staff who aim to please and make your visit positive.

Facilities nice, front desk staff not so

Pros: Quiet. We weren't on the side of the highway though.
Cons: Get competent desk clerks, fix the air conditioners.
Location: It was close to shopping. We were there for an event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, an easy 20 minute drive. The hotel allowed dogs which was key.
I dealt with 3 different clerks at the front desk and all were sullen, slow and difficult to work with. Our bill was incorrect and getting it straightened out was torturous due to the ineptness of the clerk. The room was clean and fine other than we couldn't get get cooled off, it was stuffy, moist and too warm the entire stay.

Good budget hotel

Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations, which were originally extremely low. I stayed here only because I couldn't find a hotel downtown because my trip coincided with the Iowa State Fair. I was pleasantly surprised at the comfort and cleanliness of the room. The hallways are very dated and the rest of the hotel seems really run down, but the room itself was great. Good for those on a budget where cleanliness and safety are the main factors.

Super upgrades

Just so you know, this is not a typical Super 8. The rooms have been updated and are the facility is clean, not at all worn, and is bright and comfortable. Our room was not large but held a king bed, two comfortable chairs, desk, dresser, tv - the usual. Breakfast offerings were fine and I think there may have been cocktail hour snacks but possibly the breakfast room was taken over by some other guests with their own food. Not a big deal and definitely NOT a deal breaker. We travel not to be in our room but to sleep and shower and this facility will be on our list for next year when we come to Des Moines for the GoodGuys car show. The only negative is that the towels are still smaller and thinner than a large chain hotel but so what? Bargain.

Great option for a stop along the way.

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
I stayed at this hotel as a part of a trip with a group of people from my church who were traveling from Indiana to South Dakota and back again. We stayed at the Clive Super 8 on the way out and on the way back, and it was great for that over night stay. It was easy to get to off the highway, was a clean and safe place to stay, had a friendly staff, and a good breakfast in the morning. If I were looking for a place to stay for a week long vacation I would probably look into something a bit nicer, but for an overnight stay during a long trip it's hard to beat it for the price. It will likely be a stop for future trips from our church to the same destination.
