This is an interesting 100 year old place, and it feels like it. It is best for people who want an experience. It was ok, but once was enough.

Fun, unique hotel, full of history. They made it easy to check in, even though we were late. Thank you.

Enjoyed the historical charm and friendly staff. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat off the grid, this is the place for you. Do have WiFi, but limited cell service. We spent each day in Death Valley, and were always welcomed with a warm fire in the evening upon return. Two cats added to the charm. The motel lacks some modern amenities, but the history, desert ambiance, and motivated and caring staff more then make up for it. Don't forget the Opera House tour! Be sure to check out the wild horses.

Funky old building - from 1923. Window unit AC in our room that worked pretty well. There's NO TV in the rooms. They do have WiFi. The on-site dining room is only open for a certain season, which wasn't when we were there, so they recommended we drive 7 miles to just across the NV state line to the casino/hotel/restaurant there. If you want to experience a true piece of history, Amargosa is the place. Many murals on the walls by the lady that brought the place back to life after its original purpose as a mining company main office. Anyway - closest place to Death Valley National Park that isn't one of the higher-priced places within the park. Though if you want something more modern, the casino just up the road in Nevada may be more your speed.

Not for the squeamish.

Pros: Close to Death Valley.
Cons: Everything.
Location: Near the east entrance to Death Valley, Zabriskie Point.
This hotel is a historic work in progress with a long way to go. Fortunately we only stayed one night. The history of the place is fascinating and there's lots of memorabilia to look at but for nearly a hundred bucks a night I was surprised to find: no TV in the room no phone in the room no cell service anywhere internet in the lobby only Longstreet Casino Hotel is only 7 miles away (Nevada) and has rooms with amenities for a few dollars more per night. Go there.

Smells of raw sewage

Cons: Nothing close
I didn't see a single staff person during my entire visit. My key was taped to the door with my information and room number. The room #12 and halls smelled moldy and like a cross between urine, vomit, and blood. I didn't dare take a shower because every time I opened the bathroom door I wanted to vomit. I also wore my clothes to bed because I was certain the sheets haven't been changed in at least a month. The internet claimed they had wifi, but it did not work. I left before 7am because I couldn't bear the stench of the place. Horrible experience and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

This is a nice hotel and very friendly

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
This hotel is located in the middle of the Amargosa valley near Death Valley National Park. It is a rustic, quaint place where you can experience a lot of the early 20th century history of the area. The rooms are simple but comfortable. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It was a good place to stay to anchor our trip to Death Valley. The staff was especially nice to my son, who got to feed the wild mustangs that hang out near the hotel as well as hear many stories about the hotel and the area.
