1. Palm Springs, California

Spend a day lounging by the pool at a lavish resort or explore desert nature and wildlife at Joshua Tree National Park and The Living Desert. Be sure to check out the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. It’s a ten minute ride up from the desert floor to the mountain station and is one of the steepest ascents in the world.

There are endless activities to keep the family busy, such as fishing, bicycling, boating, camping and animal watching to name a  few. Of course Old Faithful is a must-see, but don’t forget to visit the Lower Geyser Basin to avoid the crowds and see geysers of all colors

3. Cape Cod, Massachusetts

This charming beach town is sure to please the whole family, with its miles of seashore surrounded by hiking and biking trails. One of the trails you can’t miss is the Cape Cod Rail Trail, a 22-mile paved path filled with gorgeous views all the way to the National Seashore. And, while you’re there, embark on a whale watching adventure to get a firsthand look at marine life by day before relaxing at the Wellfleet Drive-in Theater at night.

4. Colorado Springs, Colorado

In 2004, it was named America’s most pet-friendly city by “Forbes”, but there’s no doubt this city is family-friendly as well. Sight-seeing is limitless with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Garden of the Gods and hot air balloon rides, and that’s just scratching the surface of what Colorado Springs has to offer. Don’t forget to make a trip to Pikes Peak, the second-most visited mountain in the world. Pikes Peak was the location that inspired poet Katharine Lee Bates to write the first few words of “America the Beautiful.”

5. Orlando, Florida
