Known for its beautiful beaches, amazing culture, mountainous jungles, and ideal year-round temperatures, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico has all the ingredients for an unforgettable family getaway. We’ve partnered with travel blogger Meagan Wristen of Mommy Travels to find the perfect place for your family to call home on your next Puerto Vallarta vacation.

Recently, I ventured down to Puerto Vallarta with two of my fellow Travelocity Gnational Gnomads. My mission was to seek out the most family-friendly resorts, and I am happy to report I found several. Today I am going to give you an in-depth overview of one of them, Sunscape Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa. I had the pleasure of spending a day here and observing all kinds of various family fun and amenities. They have so much for families that they do not even need to leave the resort to have a well-rounded vacation.

Kid-Friendly Rooms

The rooms are unlike any other I have come across in Puerto Vallarta. They have suites for families with separate areas for the parents and the kids. The kids’ portion is an enclosed room with a bunk bed and their own TV. There’s a little window where parents can peek through to keep an eye on them. The resort will even put a Wii in the room for your kids, if you like. Each of these rooms has a private terrace with direct access to the kid’s club.

Safe, Smooth Beach

Sunscape has a nice stretch of beach in front of their resort for guests to enjoy. Unlike many of the beaches in Puerto Vallarta, this beach is no rocky, the waves are calm, and there are no drop offs when walking out in the water. Kids, parents, and grandparents can swim here safely.

Kid’s Club and Teen Club

Each day both of these clubs offer a variety of age appropriate things for kids to do.

The kid’s club here is phenomenal. Inside they have video games, a ballroom, and their own theater. Out in the adjoining children’s garden they have a swing set, slide, and trampoline. Kids ages 3-12 can participate in all kinds of fun activities from morning to night. Parents have the peace of mind knowing that they are well cared for and can indulge in some adult time. The workers in the kid’s club will take your kids to lunch and dinner too. Next to the kid’s club is a kiddie pool with a fun slide.

Not only is there a kid’s club, but for older kids ages 13-17 there is a teen club called Core Zone. Teens can check themselves in and out as they wish and enjoy Xbox and Playstation video games, pool, ping-pong, activities and more.

Turtle Release Program

From July to December each year, guests have the opportunity to learn about sea turtles and help release baby turtles into the ocean. Sunscape works to protect the sea turtle population and offers guests the opportunity to watch as baby sea turtles take their first steps towards their ocean home. There is no additional cost to participate in this!

Fantastic Food

Sunscape is all-inclusive and has six dining options including two à la carte, a fast casual, a buffet, a grill, and a café, so bring your appetite, because you are in for a treat. Whether you want a fining dining experience, a quick bite to eat, or a massive buffet, they have it all. The chef at Seaside Grill is phenomenal, so plan to eat here at least twice. At Coco Cafe, I recommend a latte with Amaretto and Vanilla. In addition to the restaurant options, there are also four bars (all of which are included).

Activities Galore

They have the entire family covered when it comes to activities. The resort offers a variety of classes, including scuba, archery, yoga, water aerobics, tequila tastings and more. They have a tennis court, basketball court, and mini golf on site. Down at the beach, they have kayaks, paddle boards, boogie boards, and snorkels.

Location

The resort is in a great location only 15 minutes from the airport and steps away from the La Isla shopping complex. It is also close to El Malecón boardwalk and historic Old Town Vallarta. Plus, you can see whales from their property between December to March.
