Traveling solo can be a daunting idea, especially in a foreign country. That’s why we’ve partnered with female travel photographer Sher from Sher She Goes to discover some of the best destinations for women traveling alone.
When it comes to travel, I can’t get enough. There’s not a city in the world I don’t want to visit at least once, and many that I’d happily pick up and move to. If you’re dreaming of getting away but thinking of going it alone, you’re likely concerned with safety. So, I’ve narrowed down five destinations that are safe, charming and easily navigable for solo female travelers!
1. Ireland

Ireland has gorgeous countryside, charming small towns and incredible food. Irish people are some of the friendliest in the world and their dry wit will have you doubled over in laughter. Just walk into any pub, even during the middle of the day, and guaranteed a friendly local will introduce themselves, join you for a pint and have a list of travel recommendations that you have to experience.
For coastal scenery, try driving along the Wild Atlantic Way and for culture, the sea and a bit of sunshine, make sure to explore Ireland’s Ancient East.
2. Tulum, Mexico
The sandy beaches of Tulum are perennially chic. Grab a margarita, lay back on a daybed or wander into town to explore the Mayan ruins. You’ll run into plenty of travelers along the way to enjoy the fun!
3. Copenhagen, Denmark
Scandinavia is one of the safest regions in the world and Copenhagen is one of my favorite cities. With its colorful cobblestone streets, stylish shopping boutiques and trendy food halls, Copenhagen is endlessly photogenic.
4. Dubrovnik, Croatia
Croatia is incredibly popular for a reason. With its low crime rate, incredible scenery and outdoor pursuits, the country holds lots of appeal. Visit the medieval ocean side city of Dubrovnik and climb the walls for a bird’s eye view of the Adriatic. Don’t forget to lay out on the beach and sample some fresh seafood!
5. Tokyo, Japan
Japanese women are some of the world’s boldest solo female travelers, so locals won’t bat an eye to see you visiting alone. One major reason to recommend Tokyo? The food! Sometimes it can be uncomfortable to dine alone but in Tokyo, it’s not uncommon for people to eat solo. Sit side by side other solo diners or opposite the sushi chef and enjoy an epic Japanese feast.
