Santo Domingo flights land at Las Americas International Airport (SDQ) about 30 minutes east of the heart of the city and its dizzying cacophony of sights, sounds, and scents that mean just one thing: you're on vacation!
Transportation from SDQ
Upon disembarking from their Santo Domingo flights, clearing customs, and gathering their luggage, many visitors head to one of the many hotels near Santo Domingo Airport. These hotels are ideal home bases for exploring Santa Domingo. Most are on or near the beach in Boca Chica, which is home to shallow, turquoise waters that make for wonderful diving at La Caleta Underwater Park. The beach is also close to world-class golfing in nearby Juan Dolio. The Mirador del Este park offers volleyball courts, sailing lessons, picnic tables, and restroom facilities. To reach a nearby hotel, grab a cab outside the Customs area. Several rental car agencies operate in the hotel, but with cab fare so reasonable, renting a car may be unnecessary. Inexpensive public buses also serve the airport, but they're crowded and somewhat unreliable.
