When you visit San Pedro del Pinatar, make sure to take a wall up the pier near the old wind mill. At the end there's another one. You could go further but you'd walk into the sea. This pier is one of the arms that almost close the Mar Menor. You should time it so that you walk back when the sun starts to set. Seeing the sun set behind the houses, the mountains and into the sea is wonderful.

I have been to the Salinas (or salt lakes) of San Pedro del Pinatar a few times now. A common sight in this nature park are the flamingos. It still takes some getting used to, the fact that these birds actually live in Europe as well! The salinas, which get a beautiful reddish shine when the sunlight hits the water the right way, are located in the still pretty unknown province of Murcia, by the coast of the Mar Menor.
