I love the Dew Drop Inn—its history, its cultural significance, and what it represents. That love is why I returned and why I’m writing this thoughtfully.
I stayed here last year for a film festival and noticed something that gave me pause. While guests relaxed by the pool, the owner, Curtis, walked through with people in suits—clearly investors—passing paying guests without acknowledgment. I gave grace and moved on.
Because I genuinely respect the history of this place, I came back and brought my best friend so she could experience it too. We booked premium rooms over the stage based on the advertised lounge events and cultural experience.
Unfortunately, the stay fell apart.
For three days, we had no functioning air conditioning in extreme New Orleans heat. After a 10-hour drive, we were moved rooms three times with no resolution. Housekeeping never cleaned our room. Trash—including seafood—was left outside our door. Ice machines didn’t work, and the freezer was unusable. Because the A/C never worked, I had to sleep with windows open, which aggravated my allergies in a city with high mold counts.
The advertised lounge events that influenced our booking? None happened.
When I spoke with Curtis about a refund, he passed the issue to the manager, Brandon. I don’t fault Brandon personally, but it was clear he should not have been given responsibility for a situation of this magnitude so early in his role. A refund was promised and never received.
