The House of Maya is a cozy 4 bedroom 2 bath house with a private backyard pool and unbeatable location - just 12 miles to Disneyland, 17 miles to Downtown LA, 25 miles to LAX, a 3-min walk to Starbucks & various restaurants, grocery and shopping stores, and very accessible to many beaches and tourist attractions in Southern California! Beautiful, clean, convenient!

THE SPACE
This house is a DUPLEX. The House of Maya is a completely separate and private 4 bedroom 2 bath home, but shares a driveway and a common wall with another VRBO, Addie's Casita. There are NO shared spaces and common areas (aside from the driveway) between the two VRBOs and there are designated parking spots for both units. Both VRBOs have their own separate front doors and guests from one VRBO are not given access to any area in the other VRBO at any point during their stay. This house is perfect for families or groups who both want to explore all the must-visit places in Los Angeles and Orange County and also enjoy a BBQ by a backyard pool under the California sun.
However, please note that we do not allow parties or events.
The location of this house is unbeatable. Head approximately 17 miles west and you will find yourself in Downtown LA and drive approximately 12 miles east and you will be in the happiest place on earth, Disneyland and California Adventure Park. The house is about 25 miles from LAX and an easy drive to all other various tourist attractions in LA and Orange County. We are less than 10 minutes away from schools, such as Whittier College and Biola University, and hospitals, such as PIH and Whittier Hospital.
Most importantly, it will only take you 3 minutes to walk to great restaurants (In-n-Out, Five Guys, El Pollo Loco, Panda Express, Starbucks), grocery stores (Walmart, Food4Less, Aldi), shopping establishments (Target, Ross, Party City), and banks (Chase, Wells Fargo, Bank of America). A huge public park, Adventure Park, is also just a 10-minute walk away. A few minutes drive will bring you to the famous hiking and biking trails of Whittier hills. Everything is literally within your reach!
The house is also perfect if you are looking for a staycation. The house has an electronic smart door access and centralized air conditioning and heating via Nest thermostat. All four rooms are nicely decorated with distinct themes of contemporary, chic, farmhouse, and boho. The master bedroom has a huge bathroom while the common bathroom is located in the middle of the house. Both bathrooms are fully stocked with toiletries, towels and all your needs. The guest room has a direct access to the backyard. If you feel like cooking, the kitchen has all the appliances essential to prepare a meal. You also have the option to host a BBQ in the backyard grill. The living area has a TV where you can enjoy Netflix and, of course, free WIFI. Finally, you can freely (but responsibly) enjoy the use of the pool. However, please note that we do not have a jacuzzi or hot tub and there is an extra charge for heating up the pool.
You can park on our driveway or by the street. Just please note that there is street sweeping on our side of the street every Monday morning and the other side of the street every Friday morning.
GUEST ACCESS
The property is a duplex with two completely separate VRBOs - the House of Maya and Addie's Casita. The two VRBOs share a common wall and driveway but are completely separate houses with own front doors. Guests have exclusive and private access to the entire house (including the front yard) and guests from one VRBO are not given access to any area in the other VRBO at any point during their stay.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
STRICTLY NO PARTIES OR EVENTS ALLOWED -- We have zero tolerance for parties. If our cameras detect a party, we will contact VRBO, have your reservation cancelled without a refund, and have you vacate the property immediately.
STRICTLY NO DRUGS -- If guests are suspected of carrying and/or using illegal drugs of any kind, the authorities will be engaged. The Sheriff is just five minutes away from this house.
STRICTLY NO PETS -- We are severely allergic to pets so we cannot allow pets in the property.
PROPERTY USE TAX -- Also called "Transient Occupancy Tax", is a tax of 12% of the rent charged to transient guests then remitted to LA COUNTY.
ONLY REGISTERED GUESTS DURING BOOKING ARE ALLOWED IN THE PREMISES -- Any unregistered or unapproved guests will be considered trespassing on private property. Guests who break this rule will have their events ended without a refund. We have front door and perimeter cameras to monitor for this purpose.
STRICTLY NO SMOKING INSIDE THE HOUSE -- We have installed FreshAir sensors in each room that detect cigarette and marijuana smoke particles in the air. The device gives us time stamped charts of the incident as proof of smoking.
NO LOUD MUSIC ALLOWED AFTER 8PM -- We have very crabby neighbors and they have called the Sheriff before. You will be fully responsible for any police bills, tickets, fines, and penalties if the neighbors call the police because of late-night noises and/or suspicious activities by the guests during their stay. We reserve the right to cancel your reservation for such instances.
NOISE MONITORING SYSTEM IN BACKYARD -- The house has a device that monitors noise levels (but does not record sounds) and notifies the host and guests if it gets too loud (above 75 decibels is as loud as party noise). You will receive an SMS if you are being too loud.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN THE GUEST BRING BALLOONS, CONFETTI, OR ANY SORT OF DECORATIONS OR PARTY FAVORS -- These have been the source of all our cleaning and pool problems and your cleaning fee does not cover the extra charges our cleaning person and pool person charges us.
POOL HEATING AVAILABLE -- Pool heating fee is $50 per night and must be scheduled at check-in. Minimum of 2 nights. Pool heating fee for just one day is $60.
Temperature will be set at 85 degrees Fahrenheit and the water will be warm, but not jacuzzi-warm! The heater can only run with the pool pump that runs from 8am-8pm. Please note that it takes around 5 hours to heat up the pool but the pool can still be used while heating.
A request to turn on the heater that is not made during check-in will be subject to the availability of the hosts. Please note that the heater cannot be turned on by the guests, since the main control switch is on the host’s side.
The cleaning fee we charge is the normal market pricing of cleaners for a 4 bedroom house with a pool. Any additional extra cleaning charges will go against your security deposit:
Regular pool service is done once a week.
Safe pool use is dependent on weather conditions. Host reserves the right to restrict access to the pool if it is not safe to use. Please do not use the pool against host advise.
Guests must use the pool responsibly and all children must be under adult supervision at all times. The hosts are not liable for any event arising from or in connection with the use of the pool. Guests must not touch the pool pump at any time. This may cause electric shock.
Do not bring anything inside the pool aside from life-vests or floaters. Outside toys are not allowed. Any sort of trash can get stuck in the pool pump and damage it. Any pool repair and extra cleaning will be charged against you.
Feel free to use the barbecue outside that is set up for our guests’ leisure use only. The BBQ is to be used by the guests who stay at the home and is not to invite others to the home as it will be considered as hosting a party. Please clean up after yourselves and keep the grill clean. If found left dirty and requires extra cleaning, an extra cleaning fee of $50 may be applied.
Do not use the bath towels (white) for the pool. Pool towels (colored) are provided in the pool area.
POOL WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY -- At no time is there a lifeguard on duty, and the guest is responsible for the safe use of pool facilities. The guest releases the host from any and all liability for any loss, damage, injury, expense, or other cost that any of the guests may suffer in connection with my use of the pool or pool area to any cause whatsoever, including negligence on part of the host. The guest holds harmless and indemnifies the host from any and all liability to property, or personal injury to, any third party, resulting from the use of the pool or pool area. The guest agrees to this waiver and release upon booking the property.
PARKING -- You will have two designated parking areas in the carport/driveway. Please check the photos of the listing for the property diagram, which includes the parking spots. Please do not block the driveway access at any time.
GENERAL -- Please treat the space with respect as if it was your own home. Please do not rearrange the furniture. You, as the booking guest, are responsible for any damage or missing items caused by yourself or any one of your guests accessing our home during your stay.
Please acknowledge that occasionally, we may leave consumables such as condiments or snacks left behind by previous guests if they are not empty. We try our very best to ensure that it is not expired or stale. HOWEVER, ultimately, it is up to the guests' discretion and inspection to consume these items if they wish. The host does not take any responsibility for the consumables.
House slippers are provided in the mudroom. You may use them, but please don’t take them home.
If you will be using the kitchen, please wash the dishes or load the dishwasher before you leave.
Please clean as you go and take care of the property. All damages found will be claimed within 21 days against your security deposit after you check out.
