This house was located smack dab in between a middle-class neighborhood and a run-down one. That made me nervous, but my husband didn't think anything of it. The neighborhood WAS very quiet, until our last night, when a group of bikers partied nearby, playing loud music, revving their engines, and shooting off guns until after midnight. (Turns out, a biker rally was gathering outside of Little Rock the next day.) Upon our arrival, the back door was unlocked, but house was clean. However, after spending time there, we noticed that the floors desperately needed mopping. We had taken showers, and after walking around barefoot, we had black filth on the bottoms of our feet. The Netflix wasn't working on the main TV, but it was working in the bedrooms, so we watched it in there. The house had a lot of hard surfaces, so even the slightest noises traveled, which made the house seem loud. We were expected to take the trash cans down to the curb and back up to the house on trash day. We felt like that responsibility belonged to the housekeeper. We were also expected to clean the house to "look the way it did when we came in." With the expensive service fees, and the house cleaning falling on guests, we won't be using VRBO (or any of their competitors) again. We would rather find a hotel room with a kitchen, and enjoy the perks of housekeeping replacing toilet paper and stripping linens for us while we're relaxing on vacation.
