"Atmospheric quirky hotel. Retains convent feel. Nice staff; good restaurant at night. Note it doesn’t do breakfast but good cafe nearby. No reception before noon. Good base for Bilbao - on commuter line to central station , one hour trip with regular trains ."

"A very well built and magnificent building although the outside and gardens were nowhere near as well maintained as the interior. OK if you are impressed by such things, but in a pretty boring location so I'm glad we only booked one night and there is nothing to tempt me back."

For those explorers that are looking to stay near the authentic center of La Gandara, Travelocity lists a small number of places that are sure to please. With 3 hotels and apartments on Travelocity within a 6-mile (10-kilometer) radius of the center and surrounds of La Gandara, it'll be easy finding somewhere that suits your needs.
The Rusticae Hotel Casona de Quintana is amongst the most convenient places to stay, one of just a few choices within an easy stroll of the La Gandara downtown precinct.
13 miles (22 kilometers) outside of the heart of La Gandara, you will find the Parador De Limpias. The Castilla Termal Balneario de Solares is about 16 miles (25 kilometers) away. Alternative hotel options include the Rusticae Hotel Casona de Quintana and the Vincci Puertochico.
The larger Cantabria district is certainly worth visiting too. Photographers will appreciate Cantabria's beaches, coastal plains, rivers and mountains. On top of that, explore a few of its ruins. In this part of Spain visitors can partake in mountain biking and mountain climbing.
Lierganes is 14 miles (22 kilometers) to the northwest of La Gandara and is home to Palacio de Elsedo and Fluviarium Lierganes. Some Travelocity-listed Lierganes places to stay include the Hotel Miera and Posada Carpe Diem. Or, you could stay in Puente Viesgo, 20 miles (35 kilometers) west of La Gandara, where you can choose between the Gran Hotel Balneario and Hotel Villa Arce. If you visit Puente Viesgo, set aside a little time to check out the Las Monedas Caves and El Castillo Cave.
Just because you are visiting somewhere new, does not mean you can't indulge in your obsession with sports. San Mames Stadium can be found 30 miles (51 kilometers) to the east of La Gandara. And travelers that would like to stay in the area around the stadium can make a choice from the Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao or the Hotel Miro.
If you are traveling through Santander Airport and want to stay in the area, consider Hotel Silken Coliseum or Apartamentos Turísticos Bahía de Boó.
