View Eastwards from Sleastonhow Lane The Cross Fell range had this cloud just touching the tops for all of this very cold, frosty day.
St Michael's Church, Kirkby Thore The church is Grade II* listed, and was built in the 12C with later additions. The west tower has stepped buttresses and bell-openings in the Decorated style, as are the chancel and aisle windows. The embattled parapet has a 17C gabled bellcote on the east side. There is a north window set in a Norman arch. The moulded octagonal font was provided in 1688 by Thomas Machell, the rector, whose coat of arms is carved on one side. In the chancel the Wharton coat-of-arms is set into the wall. There is a blocked 14C priests' door to the right of the 19C vestry.
