This will be a long summary. To start with, it is a beautiful and comfortable house in a nice HOA, a bit hard to find but that's not a problem with today's GPS and with the owner's explanations. The owner was very responsive through direct text messages. Stress started to mount when on the first day of our stay while watching tennis at Indian Wells I received a text that one of our cars was parked on the front lawn to what I replied that must be a mistake. The owner kept saying he saw it (we found out he had outside cameras) and had to send him a photo proving he was wrong (his camera picked up the wrong angle). Next day we gave up trying a barbecue outside because he was very adamant with his patio flagstones and because the grill was filthy and the gas canister empty. We left the house early Monday morning because we were told the cleaning team would come in at 11:00 AM. After one hour on the road I get a text telling me to go back and turn the outside lights off to what I respond "impossible, if that is the case please ask the cleaning team to turn them off". Five days later I get a text charging me $107.48 for letting the outside lights on for five (!) days because the cleaning team all had COVID and could not show up and he could only turn the lights of on Saturday. I replied this was exorbitant, please let me see the electric bill and I would gladly pay. I was not to blame if the cleaning people could not go and, besides, having two bulbs on for 5 days could not result in such a high bill. He texted me "pay or I will come after you". At this stage, I filed a complain with VRBO and he certainly did the same. He has since also accused us of "walking on bis lawn even it the home rules said we shouldn't"; the truth is nobody did that but having parked two cars in the driveways it is impossible to get in and out of the passenger seat without stepping on the lawn. Anyways, this whole incident showed me how much of the lion share the owner has in this "contracts", how weak the renters are, and how difficult managing any complaint process with VRBO. So if you are interested in this property, have all this in mind and just be careful.
