PET FRIENDLY 2 BR Single Family 1-Story Huge Brick House w/ fenced back yard for kids & pets to roam in controlled chaos- Just 1 block from the beach! Listing is now available for rent in Summer '25 after a 2-year hiatus due to a family member medical issue. That's why there's no recent reviews.... So we are back better than ever fully remodeled / painted / new furnishings. We also added a HALF Bath in the Master Bed closet for your increased comfort. Relax inside or on the patio w amazing sunsets!
Further adding to the unique vibe of this house is the fact that there is no front door… Well there is, but it’s on the back side facing the pond. This house was designed by and built for a psychiatrist in 1972…. with a hangover from the 60’s. She used this place as her office and residence; and she wanted all her patients to experience the relaxing tranquil pond view when entering the office so they had to walk around the back to gain entry. (no worries for you lazy types-- the garage door on the front of the house gets you in directly to the kitchen). With a huge living room facing the pond you can relax inside with AC, or outside in the back yard feeling the breeze lull off the pond.

The 2 bedrooms and the couch-bed in living room nook can sleep 6 heartbeats. Master bedroom has a King bed; Second bedroom has a Queen, and the sleeping nook off the living room has a twin /trundle pull out. Kitchen and bath are spacious and still sport the retro chic yellow countertops from the 1970’s. So you will be chillin’ in a vintage classic. Your enclosed garage is a great place to safely store surfboards and bikes.


And with a 1 minute walk to the best beach access on Folly this place delivers true island feel. Because at 13th St East Access there is no car parking, just a path through the oaks and palms and vines – so you feel like you could be on the movie set of Blue Lagoon, Swiss Family Robinson, or even Gilligan’s Island…Let your daydreams wander as you come out of the shade and onto the beach. But just be prepared to have them analyzed back at the office…errr Sunset Shack.
With the outdoor shower you can rinse the salt and sand away before grilling to the max on your private patio with a gas grill.

You now have the chance to add to the rich tapestry of happily psychotic beachlovers who have drifted through this house. Whether you are doing group therapy on the beach or putting the kids in strait jackets for some much needed ME- time we know the SUNSET SHACK will enhance your mental health. And lastly, to prevent your pets from having psychotic nightmares, we ask that you scoop all poop using the handy bags we provide. And now for the legal –type stuff: The home is located in a quiet residential section of Folly Beach and we do not allow parties or events. So you if you want a house party don’t book here. Folly has strict noise ordinance rules and is really cracking down with fines. Residential District QUIET HOURS are from 10pm-9am with no loud voices or amplified music inside or out. Sunset Shack allows a maximum of 6 guests with 2 off street parking spaces and is strictly NON SMOKING. If you bring pets- We require $200 Non Refundable Pet Fee. All guests must sign our standard 2-Page South Carolina Short Term Rental Agreement which includes all the house and Folly Beach rules. We strongly recommend guests purchase TRIP INSURANCE which can protect you from last minute travel changes due to health, family, weather, or employment issues..…Look forward to hosting you soon!

Perfect location

We had a wonderful time with our dogs at Sunset Shack. This location was perfect for us - close to the beach and just far enough from town to get some privacy and enjoy the sounds of the birds and the waves. We rented bikes during our stay which provided easy access to town for food/drinks/live music. It was also a great way to explore the island. Sam was easy to communicate with and made check-in a breeze. The house was perfect for our needs and the fenced yard for the dogs was a huge bonus. Also appreciated the doggie gate and dog towels they provided! Highly recommend the Sunset Shack!

This place was perfect! Quiet area, short walk to the beach, great fenced in back yard for our dogs, beautiful sunsets over the pond, fantastic bird watching, and a very clean and organized house! We thoroughly enjoyed our January stay.

More than we ever expected!

The listing/description is completely accurate. You will not be disappointed. Everything was spotless. Huge amount of indoor/outdoor space. Nicely fitted-out fenced garden next to a freshwater pond. Sunsets were amazing, as we watched the view and the birds...and the birds watched us back. Very quiet. Located on a short dead end street. Half block to the beach,. We're looking forward to our next vacation here.

The sunset shack exceeded expectations for sure. The space is nicely laid out, it’s very roomy and clean. It was just 2 adults celebrating birthdays, but I could easily see my family of 5 enjoying this place! Love the private back patio and took advantage of the grill and outdoor shower. Grateful for the nice cool A/C as some days were HOT! LOVE the beach here just 1/2 block down the street. Not at all crowded. Nice bike ride to town. Sam was super easy to work with, extremely responsive and great about checking in to make sure we were good. Thank you for the wonderful stay!!

Excellent Place

We had an amazing stay at the Sunset Shack. Our dogs loved the fenced in backyard to run in. The proximity to the beach is a short walk. Very clean and accommodating. We definitely would stay again.

Awesome Place!!

My family and I stayed at sunset shack for a week. What a nice place. It was super clean, modern and is only a 2 minute from the beach. The house was fully furnished and had a lot of extras such as beach chairs, bogie boards, linens,etc. Sam, the host, is great. There was a lot of communication and he made sure that we were happy. I definitely would like to return.

Relaxing stay in Folly

We had a great stay at the house. We loved being a half block from the beach, and the tunnel of foliage leading right to the sand was amazing. It was not very crowded at all; definitely more surfers than I'd ever seen, which was pretty cool. The house itself was very clean, and we loved having the fenced-in backyard for our pooch. The garage, and not having a blazing hot car, is a nice bonus. All the basic amenities were definitely covered. Sam was very easy to deal with, and was very responsive to any questions.

Great pet-friendly house and location!

This is a fantastic pet-friendly house and location. The house is nicely decorated, clean, spacious, and comfortable. So many small touches and conveniences make a huge difference! The fenced-in back yard and pond was a great place to unwind with our dog and barbecue at the end of the day. The beach access is a very short, easy walk and since we were there in April, we could take our dog to the beach with us. The neighborhood is peaceful with beautiful homes and friendly neighbors, and if you sleep with the windows open, you will hear the rolling ocean waves all night. Sam was very attentive and a pleasure to work with. We already rented another one of his (larger) homes for next year!

Let's pretend life is normal!

We had a very relaxing time, inside & out, enjoyed the herons around the adjacent pond. Dogs appreciated the fenced yard. Beach access at end of the street. All of us enjoyed strolling on the beach! The beds were comfy, the kitchen well-equipped. Already planning a trip back & our neighbors plan to stay also.

My family & dog had a great Thanksgiving staying in Folly!

The house was fantastic! It was so clean and had everything you could possibly need. Sunset Shack is perfect for a family of four or even six using the daybed. The fenced in yard is large and great for your pet. There is a beautiful pond behind the house with incredible sunsets. The owner was easy to communicate with and ready to help you. Will definitely use this house again! Plus it is only a very short walk to beach.

Fantastic Folly Experience

The SunsetShack is all that’s advertised and more! This was the perfect beach home for us to enjoy our first trip to Folly. The walk to the beach is super short and easy. Once on the beach, the 13th street beech access is not crowded at all with flat sandy beach and waves awesome for boogie boarding. We were so impressed by the house! It was so clean! Comfortable beds, bedding, towels, use of beach chairs and other beach goodies make this a must stay...add to this the enjoyment of being in the backyard with our pup experiencing the pond views:seeing the fish jump, watching the wading birds, and of course the sunsets! Can’t wait to visit Folly again!

Nearly Perfect. Will return to this property!

Sam is a great host! We felt right at home, even before check in. Sam had everything we could possibly need, including beach chairs and beach goods - a nice surprise. The setting with the pond is great and literally a short walk to the beach, as advertised. The cottage was clean and cozy. Plenty of room and neat character to the property. We go to Folly Beach because we love the vibe and rustic nature; the Sunset Cottage fits right in with that Attached garage is a great feature. It was like renting from a family member without any of the added hassle or obligations! We felt at home for our week. Thanks Sam!! Great job!

Must stay!! Beautiful home and property. The owner was very accommodating to our family, including the 4 big dogs we take every where. Best beach access on folly. Pond is beautiful. Fenced in front and back yard. Very private. Proposed to my girlfriend at sunrise on the beach. Kids and dogs loved the house. We will definitely be back next year.

Very, very clean! We didn’t get to enjoy the beach too much, because the weather was quite cool. But we liked the back yard, where our dog could explore without worrying about him getting out. It was a nice, comfortable house, and we thank you for renting to us.

Loved Our Stay at Sunset Shack

We loved our 11 day stay at the Sunset Shack! The pond with the great sunsets, fish jumping and birds, was very calming. Our dogs loved the fenced in yard, and the neighbors were very friendly. Sam is a great owner and when we had a minor problem one evening, he was there to fix it immediately. The restaurants and bars in Folly are a lot of fun, and all food was delicious. The only negative thing I have to say is we didn’t stay long enough!!! Enjoy your stay!

We really enjoyed staying at the Sunset Shack! The house was perfect, super clean and neat. The back yard, fenced in, was a wonderful place for our dog to spend some quality time - he really enjoyed watching the wildlife around the pond. Poop bags were even provided! Sam was excellent to deal with, responsive and quick to all messages and a super nice guy. We look forward to returning!!

Great house, great location, everything we needed!

We had an awesome stay with our young son & 2 dogs. Everything we needed was at the house & it was very clean, inviting & easy to relax there. We loved the short walk to the beach & enjoyed the sun there with the dogs each day. We ate out in Folly, but also recommend the West Ashley Farmers Market (Saturday) & the Sunday Brunch Market (Sunday). The Barrel (about 2mi out of Folly on your left) is a dog friendly Brewery w food trucks & a dog park. We didn’t meet the owner, but communication was great. The neighbors were all friendly. We would definitely stay here again! This was my first trip to Folly in ~25yrs & my husband’s first ever...it’s got a great small town feel even though you are only 20min from the City & all that it has to offer. Next time we come, we would probably take our son to the Aquarium since he’ll be big enough to appreciate it. The VRBO/HomeAway listing is accurate. This was one of the best VRBO experiences we have had & its great that we were able to bring our dogs.
