We were on a 2 day car trip from PA to MA. It was after midnight and we were tired, so we decided to book a room at this red roof Inn on Hotels.com. It got solid reviews online and was close to the highway. When we pulled into the parking lot, we knew this was not going to be a good experience. The outside of the building was dirty and dilapidated. Totally unkempt.
I went inside, checked in and got our key. I asked the clerk where the safest place to park was because we had a lot of items in the car. He said everywhere was well lit and monitored. I should have known it wasn’t a safe place because he was standing behind a completely partitioned plastic divider.
We drove around the building to look for the safest place to park. What a total neglected mess! One of the worst hotels I’ve ever seen. In a complete state of disrepair and neglect. When we saw the brightly lit lingerie store 25 feet away we decided this was not a safe place for us to stay.
I went back inside and returned the room key. We never set foot in the room. I asked for a refund and the clerk refused. He asked why we were leaving and I told him.
We contacted Hotels.com to try to get a refund. They contacted the hotel management who refused. So we paid $125 to drive in the parking lot and leave.
Do yourself a favor and stay as far away from this decaying, seedy dump as you can. Or, roll the dice, grab some lingerie, and take your life in your hands.
