We rented this condo and was really excited until we arrived, unfortunately. The Lobby at Pelican Beach was filthy (doors, elevators, everything). Then we made it up to our unit only to be further disappointed. The room was filthy. I was took several pictures immediately and contacted Real Joy. The walls and floors were filthy, the fans were covered in an absurd amount of dust, the dishes still had food on them, there was tooth paste smeared on the door to the master and even some on the comforter of the bed. There was some yellow, sticky liquid on the walls with long black hairs stuck in them, the toilet seat was broken, the couch was broken, etc. I could go on and on.
Real Joy contacted me back promptly and sent someone to fix the toilet seat. They also offered to have the cleaning service come back in but at that point, I declined because it’s clear they aren’t very good so having them come in again seemed pointless. We just told them we wanted everything noted so we weren’t charged. The kitchen (besides the dishes) and the bathrooms were clean which were my main concern.
We saw two cockroaches while we were there but 1 was in the hallway (where it is open to the outside) and the other was on the outside screen of our patio. I wanted to freak out but then I read they’re common in that area & I didn’t see them inside our unit therefore I just tried to move past it.
We met a few other couples who showed us similar conditions in their rooms which was disappointing.
Aside from the above, the pool/hot tub area, beach area, tiki bar, etc. were wonderful! My only complaint was we saw a massive rat run in and out of the tiki bar area (while we were sitting in the more enclosed hot tub right next to the tiki bar). Again, disappointing. I understand critters will be outside, but eww.
Overall, the reason we booked was for the view, the proximity to the beach and the outside experience which was nice enough for us to have a good time. RealJoy was always quick to return messages which was also a plus. Unfortunately, we will be booking a different location on our return to the area, and I hope they start taking their cleaning standards are a little more serious.
I wish some kind of refund would have been offered to us for the issues, but none ever was.
