Once a dirt road, is now paved and runs from just outside Boone straight down through beautiful mountain scenery to Darby.
Finally, this last photograph was what I chose to represent Appalachia in the "first look" assignment. I believe that this truly does fram Appalachia. My other photographs that I have taken have been at all different times: sunset, sunrise, and day time. But now we are able to see Appalachia at night. and it looks much, much different. I personally have never seen a sky look like this with my naked eye, but using a camera to depict reality almost makes it more real than what our eyes can see. If we based everything on what our eyes can only see, we would have so much less knowledge of the world we live in. If we were to look up in the sky, we would not be able to see this. But, if we take a good long look at it and let our eyes adjust, more stars will appear and make themselves visible. Same goes for Appalachia. Once we let our eyes adjust and immerse ourselves in the culture, our perspective and ideas will change. #appalachianechoes
I took this picture while on my way back to school from home. For me, it represents the danger of the mountains because I could barely even see the road through the copious amounts of fog. Yet, for others there could be a far greater significance to this area. The bridge pictured is actually part of the Blue Ridge Parkway which crosses large expanses of Appalachia. That being said, it is a connecting force between many hard to reach places as quite literally this road was carved through mountains to reach its destination. Not only that, but this bridge almost acts as a entrance to the community beyond, because once I see it on any drive, I can comprehend how close I am to my final destination of Appalachian State. #appalachianechos
