If you want to be close to the water and beach, hear the waves, enjoy the sunset, this is place to stay on North Captiva! No other place is closer, or has a better view. Big on the Beach is it! Thanks to Bob and Wendy the place was ready for occupancy. They picked us up at the docks, carted our luggage to the house, and gave us a comprehensive orientation of all this spectacular house has to offer. When our week was up, Bob and Wendy were again there to help. Thank you! The house was immaculate and well suited for super large groups like our own. It offered plenty of beds and convenient bathrooms for all of us. And the kitchen is well equipped for fixing large meals or casual snacks for large groups. Much thanks to Bob and Wendy for making this a pleasant family vacation, and to Stephanie (the owner) for sharing her wonderful house and spectacular location with us. We love Big on the Beach!

A Stunning Comeback! We Can't Wait to Return.What an absolute gem of a vacation rental! We knew the home had been recently remodeled after hurricane damage, but the care and quality that went into the restoration are truly impressive.It feels brand new, yet incredibly cozy and welcoming.The house was immaculate upon our arrival-spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. The views are even more stunning than the photos suggest, and we spent every morning with coffee on the deck, just soaking it all in.A special shout-out to the caretakers, who were so attentive and made us feel well-looked after throughout our stay. It's clear how much pride they take in this property.We enjoyed our time so much that we've already decided we'll be back next year. Thank you for providing such a wonderful and relaxing getaway.Highly recommend!

This house and location are absolutely amazing! The home was recently remodeled over the past year and it showed! We were 2 families totaling 12. We were able to spend time together and enjoy island life! We loved that the beach was just steps in front of the house and we also enjoyed the pools at the island club that was just a short golf cart ride away. The house was very clean and we loved the caretakers of this home, they were very helpful and attentive and made getting to the house and the island very easy. We highly recommend and plan to return next year!

Calm and Peaceful Stay

The location is best on island from what I could tell. You can see gulf and bayside. Sunsets are amazing. Wildlife and seashells abound. The beaches are secluded for the most part with an occasion couple or family but night and day when compared to some of the more “touristy” places we have stayed along 30A. We will most certainly return. The owner and caretakers went out of their way to ensure our stay was amazing. Stephanie, Wendy and Bob were excellent communicators!

Best location on the island.

Perfect beachfront spot, twenty-five feet from the water. We saw dolphins and tarpon right in front of the house. Each night we watched the most beautiful sunsets and fell asleep to the waves. Absolutely incredible.

Best Island Getaway

We had a very big group for a week and this home was perfect. Location couldn’t have been any better and everyone was extremely helpful. Not only was the house/owner great everyone on the island were great too. It was windy while we stayed so we spent a lot of time at the pool. The pool area was just as beautiful. We loved it so much and hope to go back.

Beach vacation

The house had an amazing location literally right on the beach. Being able to hear the waves from inside the house and on the porch was really neat. Also, being able to just walk outside and onto the beach was perfect! I will say that the house is definitely in need of some updates. Some windows leaked quite a bit during the storm and the bathrooms were small and needed updated faucets. While the house is on the beach and sand was expected, the floors definitely could have been swept better before we arrived. There were numerous collections of dust and dirt in bedrooms and living rooms and the rugs looked very dirty. Despite some of those upgrades and cleanliness issues, the location was fantastic and we had a great trip!

Island paradise

The Island makes you relax and take life down a notch plenty to enjoy while you’re there. Kayaking saw dolphins within 20 feet playing and jumping out of the water. sightseeing for wildlife was a pleasure. You have access to two different pools and one hot tub. Mangos bar and grill had great cocktails and food wonderful people. The host Stephanie was Awesome as well as Bob and Wendy Lee the caretakers they wanted to make your stay is a special one for sure and we’re easy to get in touch with if you had any questions. Can’t say enough such a pleasure.

What a beautiful blessing!

It really is hard to put this experience in just a few words. It was a perfect fit for the 12 of us! Beautiful and comfortable! Stephanie was so kind and helpful. Bob and Wendy, the amazing hosts, were so informative, kind and easy to reach. This beach house is truly paradise! The beaches were beautiful, shelling and fishing were so fun it was so hard to leave. If you want a truly peaceful and relaxing vacation go to the Big House on the Beach! You will never regret it.

A true beach house… Nothing fancy but all the essentials and then some. A great 6 bdr layout for large families. Best location on the island! The only downside is their 8 AM check out, but we requested a later time and they happily accommodated us. Fantastic week!

Tropical Oasis with a view like no other

The location of this property is amazing with it being directly on the beach! We woke every morning to watching the diverse wildlife in the water and along the beach from our balconies, and the most amazing sunsets every evening! We went around the whole island and I’m not sure there is another house with this unique vantage point on the beach. We had our whole family, siblings, nieces and nephews, and parents, and all slept comfortably. We also do a lot of cooking and their kitchen was well stocked with quality kitchen items and a nice newer grill! The property owner and care takers were wonderful and very responsive, even helped us arrange transportation when we had a medical emergency.

Beach Birthday Dream

We stayed here for family birthday celebration. It was a dream come true from start to finish. The location of this home is beyond compare! Right on the beach for swimming, sunsets, shelling, and more! The interior of the home suited our extended family of 10 with a perfect gathering space as the heart of the home and respite/sleeping spaces for all. The amenities of the Island Club connection and a golf cart allowed for further exploring and fun! We left with a heart full of memories and we would definitely return to this fabulous vacation home.

Amazing oceanfront location

We loved the Big on the beach house and it’s perfect location. We could see dolphins and manatees from both inside and outside the house. The beach front location was great for just walking out the front door to either swim or for some fishing from shore. Our favorite evening spot was the lower level, with the screened in porch and large couch! We hung out there for hours listening to the wave and watching the sunset. The hosts, Bob and Wendy were always available to answer any questions we had. When we arrived the house was spotlessly cleaned and the restaurant they recommended was fantastic. We would eat there again!

Girls Trip 2023

This was my second time staying at the Big on the Beach House. The first time was with my family for my wedding. This time there were 10 girls aged mid 20’s to mid 50’s for an epic girl’s trip. The house fit all of us perfectly! This really is the very best spot on the island being on the North end with a great stretch of beach and quiet right out the front door. The house could probably use a little TLC as you can tell there’s been water in it at some point. Overall it is a beautiful home though! Windows everywhere and 4 decks! The manager Wendy was helpful getting us picked up earlier than scheduled so we could catch the 7:30am ferry off the island. It was a great place to stay. I would recommend this place for a large group for sure! You really CANNOT beat the view!! The owners of the house are also very helpful and seem very nice. Thank you again for another wonderful stay at your property!

Best Birthday Ever!

My friend and I both turn 50 within days of each other. We wanted a spectacular celebration with all of our friends. Big on the Beach did not disappoint. There’s something for everyone in our very large group. Guys loved to fish and ride golf carts to explore. The girls shopped, beached, and went to the pool. Perfect for a family reunion

We enjoyed a nice long weekend at Big on the Beach! Our family had plenty of space to spread out and my daughter (7 months) was able to sleep downstairs while the adults hung out upstairs. We had a wonderful time spending some much needed time as a family. We took advantage of the location and views to update family photos while there as well! Bob and Wendy were absolutely wonderful; so warm and welcoming as well as super helpful. It was our first time on the island but it won’t be our last! See you soon North Captiva!!

A week in paradise!

Our group of 12 (6 adults, 6 teens/tweens) had a spectacular week at this home! This was the first trip to the island for all of us, and it quickly has become a favorite!! The location of the house was ideal for our crew. Tons of time on the beach, and since the house is literally right on the beach, people could come and go as they pleased. No need to plan or pack anything. Just put on your bathing suit, sunscreen up and go! We spent every day at the beach and pool. It was nice to bounce between the two. The house was spacious enough that all three families had their own bathroom and all 12 of us could have down time alone, if desired. We were not cramped in any way. The views from the decks were gorgeous and the sunsets were breathtaking. The caretakers of the house (Bob and Wendy) were so helpful and attentive. We had a minor issue with a golf cart while there, and they immediately took steps to rectify it for us. Everyone we met on the island were so friendly and helpful. We will absolutely be back!! Many times I think :)

Our family of 16 had fun from sunrise to sunset. From playing in the ocean to fun in the pool to hiking and collecting seashells to seeing manatees and watching the dolphins swim by. It was everything we hoped for and more . A little bit of paradise!

Big House on the Beach accolades

We had an incredible family vacation at Big House. There were 4 families-7 adults and 5 children ( three 2 year olds and a 4 and 6 year old.) I agree with other reviews that the house has the best location of any house on North Captiva. It’s directly on the beach and beautiful views from every space. There was plenty of space. The young families stayed downstairs and the “older” adults up and there was a spacious gathering space with kitchen overlooking, so we could all be together. The sunset views were spectacular. We split time between beach and pool. The island is still recovering from Hurricane Ian and we were glad to support businesses as they recover. It did not impact our stay in an adverse manner. The owner was very responsive and hand’s on. The property managers, Wendy and Bob Lee were incredible to work with and extremely helpful. If you’re looking for new and luxurious, this may not be the place for you. But if you are looking for a perfect setting and a spacious, well taken care of home to build family memories, then I highly recommend Big House on the Beach! We hope to go back!
