Gorgeous, well equipped home!

The house is a complete gem. Beautiful, spacious, well designed architecture and layout. Lovely furnishings and decor (some Asian inspired). The lanai and yard are beautiful and so peaceful. We felt like we were in the womb of the forest! No bugs whatsever, but birds, and nightly sounds of frogs. The owners have been very thoughtful in many details. Lighting, kitchen supplies, linen cupbards well stocked, etc. Everything so clean, organized and comfortable. We loved the feeling of utter peace and isolation, and loved being an 8 min drive into Volcanoes National Park. And a few minutes' to the several restaurants and basic shops in the 'village'. The key pad code to enter the house was not working, but the Vacasa people answered the help line quickly and talked me through how to get into the lockbox for a key.

Beautiful

An amazing property. the only downfall was access to nearbye reasonably priced food. Also, a bracelet was left behind we think. We were told they would let us know if they found it and did not hear back (99% sure it was left on shelf in bathroom upstairs). But the comfort, the quietness, cleanliness, and personal touches to this home were beyond amazing for us. If you are looking for a quiet, clean, incredibly comfortable tropical "jungle" type experience, this is the place!

Spacious and gorgeous

Two bedrooms both with comfy beds, beautiful lighting and outstanding showers. The large family room has enough beds and couches to accommodate the full 8 person max. An outdoor heated shower head made cleaning off from the beach a delightful experience and the property in general provides bountiful botanical delights. Full kitchen with more dishes than you could possibly use, and no empty cabinets for food. Plan on using counter space for any groceries. Info states the water isn't potable but we found the house was equipped with drinkable water filtration system so that's a plus! The property is not fully accessible but for the fully able it's a wonderful spot!!! Would definitely stay again

Lovely peaceful house

The house is lovely. Very nicely furnished and comfortable. Loved the fireplace and back porch. It has everything you need. The location is quiet - the only noise was from birds chirping and the feral pigs who appeared in the back yard. Very close to the National Park. We loved it and would come again.

Quiet Seclusion

Beautiful property tucked away near the end of neighborhood and street. The property was just as pictured. Beautiful home, beautifully decorated and surrounded by lush vegetation. If you plan on staying here, know that there are only a few restaurants in the village. There are only kitchen essentials. No spices or even salt and pepper. You will need to bring all food items and condiments with you. Other than that, it has ample space, nice linens and towels, complimentary bath & body products, and laundry & cleaning essentials. I loved the sound of the coqui frogs. My husband did not. Lol There are a pair of birds that roam the yard and a sweet smell in the air from the ginger plants. I recommend it for those that do not mind being in a rural area and want close proximity to the Volcano National Park.

A Must Go

This is probably the most unique and impressive vacation rental we have been to. The property is amazing! My family of 5 had enough room to spread out and be comfortable. The layout was perfect and it was truly a gem to stay here. Beds and bathrooms were comfortable and well appointed. Internet was super, although cell phone reception is spotty in the area (we could still call but at times we had low bars) Kitchen was well appointed but bring all spices and oils you want because there aren’t any Beware that the heat and a/c are not the strong points in this rental, but there are space heaters and fans that make it comfortable. Coqui frogs are plenty and it rains a lot but it all adds to the beauty of the space. This property is very close to VNP. Lots of space to work. All together, we loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone!

Great place to stay in the tropical paradise and close to Volcano NP

I would have taken 0.5 point off the rating for the check-process. An hour before check-in time I received an email giving me the gate code and alarm code, but the entry code "will be sent later." I called on my way there and the person said may be I don't need one since it wasn't given together with other codes. I didn't feel very good about it but I thought I would go see for myself. When we got to the door, there was a keypad obviously requiring a code to get into the house. Called again and got put through 2 more persons, who kept telling me that the issue has been escalated. They told me to try 2 different codes but none worked. Finally, about an hour later, the person from the local office called and told me that the keypad isn't working and told me to go to a lockbox to use the emergency key. This house is managed by Vacasa. There was clearly a poor communication chain between the main and local office and the customer. We were very upset during that hour standing outside, make sure you have all 3 codes before heading over to the house! Otherwise, the house is beautiful, well-maintained with a great layout and very spacious. The sounds of insects and pouring rain can be very loud through the night. One suggestion would be to put curtains or blinds in the bedrooms. I got woken up by the sun shining right in my eyes before 7am. The house is about 9 mins from Volcano NP, very convenient to be able to go back and forth if you don't want to visit the park all at once. Tips: to avoid the crowds at night for lava viewing, we had dinner at the house, then headed out after 9pm.

Magical Experience

We spent three nights in this beautiful home, and wished we could have stayed longer. We were vacationing with another family, and this spacious home worked out perfectly! We were close enough to the volcano to visit it by day and night, seeing the magma glow at night is a must see. The beauty and comfort of this home combined with the sounds of nature from the rainforest created a magical experience for us. We hope to visit again some day.

Nice house, needs attention to details

There was definitely an issue with the house when we arrived. Two doors were unlocked and one was open about a foot. No outside lights were left on so we hesitated going in but we felt we had no choice. We did check for intruders throughout the whole house, called the property manager who listened and only referred us to another "technical manager". By that time we had decided to stay only if we could alarm the house and that the response would be directly by the police, not by phone tag to the property managers or owners. We were assured it would be so we decided to stay. The house is lovely and as described on the website. However it is on the rainy side of the island. I found it damp and a little chilly and I could not get the propane stove lit. I got the pilot light on but it didn't seem to convert to being on. There was dust under the bed upstairs and soap scum on the soap dish. One of the outside light bulbs is flickering. During the rain, there is a small leak upstairs that must be coming from the roof. It would be nice to have plastic containers or plastic to help store leftovers but I do understand these may not be available according to the information we received prior to our visit. We ended up having a good time on the island but we definitely got off to a bad start.

Volcano viewing

This property was the ideal location for spending time at volcano park. A beautiful home and ideal for 2 couples with 2 master suites. The only glitch for us was check in. The management company that handles the booking sent an email with check in information which also included a link to register with them. Since the link requested my passport and it looked as if I had all the I formation I needed I didn't bother to register with them. However when we arrived we discovered that all the codes in the email were wrong and we could not get in. I phoned the number and was told I had to register online to access new codes. It made for a bumpy start. In all the traveling we have done with VRBO this is the first time I have been asked for passport info. Also I don't understand why they send outdated information in an email if they insist on registering through the site. At the very least send an email to your guests letting them know they will be required to register with your turn key link to get the proper codes.

Terrible management, beautiful house with safety and privacy issues

We experienced several issues that limited our enjoyment of the property. 1) after we received a confirmation email that provided the gate code and security system code, we did not receive the front door code. It took more than hour on the phone, during which several excuses were made by turnkey and documentation was requested to verify our identities. An hour during which we were pulled over on a highway due to reception issues. Security is great, but we already had been given the gate code and the security system code. So it seemed like the property management bumbling rather than an actual security measure. 2) We asked if the water at the house was potable (a common question for rentals in the area). We received the response that it was not, then a follow up response during the gate code debacle stating yes the water is potable, then an email stating no, not potable. After staying there, it appeared the water was potable. A clear and accurate response would have been appreciated. 3) the stovetop worked fine, but the oven took 30 minutes to heat to 185 degrees.and leaked gas into the home. Obviously not operational. It took a somewhat frantic hour to purge the smell from the home. Needless to say, we did not get to use the oven during our stay. 4) in grabbing an oven mitt for holding a hot pan, I put oven mitt#1 back due to obvious damage. Oven mitt #2 looked better, but had a giant , unseen hole in the seem of the forefinger, which was perfectly positioned to receive a blistering burn on said finger. 5) while this may be petty, there was no laundry detergent in the home. The listing said a 'starter supply' would be provided. A little irritated by issues 1-4, we made a point of asking for the detergent. A delivery was promised by the management company...and the delivery never arrived. 6) this is definitely petty - homes in the area tend to provide local coffee, and sometimes local produce as a welcome gift. There was a coffee container in a basket that appeared to be used for this purpose but was conspicuously empty. We don't expect or require freebies, but we just thought that it was funny. 7) and the biggest concern: there is a security camera pointing directly at the primary bedroom, directly at the bed. Blinds can occlude it's view, but they were open when we arrived. Overall, an incredible, beautiful home - but an experience ruined by the management, safety concerns, and privacy concerns.

Beautiful home in the Rainforest

Hale Hapu’u was one of the most unique properties we have stayed at. The thought and craftsmanship that went into the design of this unique Asian/Japanese inspired home make it a warm and inspiring home - a must stay in Volcano Village. Nestled in the rainforest, you can hear the tree frogs all night - in the morning you can walk the trail in the rainforest. It is a 5 minute drive to amenities in the village and 10 minutes drive to the National Park. I would highly recommend this house (we will be back!).

Mold and dust throughout interior home. Didn’t sleep in master bedroom because of mold in this room and sand in bed. Could not use lawn because grass wasn’t cut. Outside of home needed a good power washing. Only at home for three nights so we tolerated, but left home 7-8am and returned 8-10pm.

Amazing house in the rainforest!

What an absolutely incredible property in the rainforest in Volcano. We awoke every morning to the sound of a chorus of birds and softly falling rain as the sun pierced the clouds. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is less than 10 minutes away, so we easily spent the entire day at the park without a long drive to get back home. The house itself was incredible, just as it appears in the photos.
