The room was ok but when I went to check out they charged me a $30 resort fee. When I checked in the day before the check in person told me I didn’t have to pay it and when I checked out the next day the person said I did and wasn’t very friendly.

This Hotel is listed as 4.5 stars and it dose not meet for a roadside motel. the materials of the upgrade are HOME DEPOT special, not only low quality materials but also very bad workman ship. i am 5"6" I had bend my knees to wash my hair in the shower, the bathroom sink was only 24 inches wide, not to mention the homeless people that are around that area. For only $20 more a night i spent the weekend at the Marriott on the 36 floor with view of the bay.

The reviews for this hotel seem to be mostly negative. So I was prepared for the worst. I was pleasantly surprised. Yeah, there are a lot of homeless people outside. It's San Francisco in 2018. That's a thing. But it has nothing to do with the hotel. The common areas of the hotel (lobby. hallways) are old and could use a full refresh. But my room, while dated, was clean and comfortable. And that's what matters to me. Its easy to pick on old properties (the tile was old, the plumbing was dated and probably coated in lead paint). but you should be ready for that going in. If you want "brand new" and "fresh" stay somewhere more expensive. The staff was super nice, helpful, and a pleasure to deal with. Would I stay here again? Yup. I would.

Bad experience

Cons: Natural lighting and lighting fixtures.
Location: shady location. many homeless people around the hotel. The Market Street location seems convenient when booking online but its nuisance while loading
Very bad lighting in the hotel room. Very musty and bad smell on entering the room as if carpet was not cleaned for months. Windows left opened the next night which disturbed our sleep due to loud city noises. Window location did not allow any natural lighting in the room. Not kids friendly at all. Parking charges were added to the invoice even when we didn't have car parked in the hotel parking.

Neighborhood was dirty and not in nice area. Hotel was dark and room was very old. Not updated at all. Parking was very expensive and I thought it would have been included in the high price of the hotel. Single TV in restaurant and seating was not condusive to watch TV at bar. The good thing was that starbucks was attached to the hotel.

Wonderful place to stay Convenient to transit, and many other places. However, the facility is not very device friendly. They should seriously think about upgrades in that respect.

Lovely historic hotel

Pros- Helpful and friendly staff, very well kept hotel on the National Registry. Restaurant (just so-so by San Fran standards) inside which includes a bar with original Tiffany stained glass windows. Also attached to lobby is a Starbucks. An entrance to the BART (subway) is located immediately in front of hotel, which travels to/from SFO airport. The Muni bus is also immediately in front of hotel. Economically priced and overnight parking available (also reasonably priced). Cons- location! While it’s only about a 20 minute walk east on Market St to the retail shopping district, it is a seedy part of Market St. I would not recommend walking with children or the elderly who cannot walk quickly (or for those who find urban transients/addicts frightening). San Fran is known for its high population of street dwellers, but it was really heavy in this area. Would definitely not walk after dark either. However, if you’re willing to Uber/Lift or take a cab, it’s a beautiful historic hotel with attentive staff. The other con was the valet staff for the hotel parking (a separate company from the hotel - North Beach Parking). The valet were extremely slow, seemed apathetic and in absolutely no hurry to assist guests. I’ve never seen any valet not walk quickly or run from place to place. These guys crawled at a snails pace and literally didn’t seem to care.
