Condado de Saline
Truck stop USA, baby! Let's be honest, it's Kansas; there isn't much to talk about round here. But, this is one of the nicer gas stations around. Probably not another good one for at least 100 miles. Isn't my life fun? ;)
A great place for sunset watching.
Yeah, that's a real tank. When in Salina, check it out. :)
"I Can Smell Ya From Here"

This is The Cozy Inn, Salina's pride & joy. This little Kansas burger stand has been sitting here for over 89 years. The business first started when White Castle was introduced to Wichita, KS back in 1921. The owner at the time decided to jump on the coat tails of White Castle's success, and open up a stand featuring little hamburgers as well. He decided to keep it simple. Little patty, little bun, a pickle, little bit of mustard & ketchup, and oh yeah, a mountain of grilled onions. These onions are the reason why people keep coming back here. You can smell the onions from blocks away. The restaurant itself, only has 6 barstools directly next to the legendary grill. So if you sit inside, everyone in town knows what you had for lunch that day. No joke at all. It will permeate your clothes. It's not a bad thing, unless you hate the smell of onions.

While I was standing in line, waiting for my combo meal of 6 sliders, a bag of chips, and a can of soda; a gentleman shared with me the little known history of The Cozy. He told me that some years back, some new owners came in and tossed the grill that had been with The Cozy since its opening. They threw it in the landfill and replaced it with a brand new one. The people of Salina were not impressed with the new taste of The Cozy's burgers. Business plummeted apparently. And like Superman has so famously done in the comic books, the old owner came back just in the nick of time and bought back his beloved hamburger stand, and saved the business from going under. His first decision? Get rid of this new grill, and go find his old one in the landfill. Once the old grill was back up and running, the business returned.

I don't know what it is about this place, but I instantly fell in love. It inhabits everything you want out of a small town hamburger stand. The smells, the atmosphere, the outdoor seating on a sidewalk, and of course, the phenomenal taste of these little burgers. My favorite part? They don't even wrap up the burgers. They just stack the 6 burgers in a paper sack. And if you're thinking 6 is too many? Too bad. That's the smallest amount that they sell.

For a complete experience of The Cozy, come to Salina. If you don't want to make the trip, you can watch the episode of "Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives" that featured this amazing little hamburger stand located in the heart of America, Kansas.
