Great Location

Walking distance to Times Square, 1 block to the largest Macy's I've ever seen, Empire State building around the corner, easy to get a cab in front of hotel, fashion district a few stops away on the subway. Cab to LGA about 30 minutes & 45.00. Tip included. All kinds of food & shopping in walking distance.

Pros: The breakfast buffet was good.
Cons: Vending and ice machine on every floor.
Location: The hotel location is near Macy's Department Store along with different places to eat.
I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and will return in the near future when visiting New York City.

In the middle of the city chaos...a true oasis!

Pros: Great staff. Great indoor and outdoor ambience. FABULOUS breakfast. Comfortable bed. Quiet. Near EVERYTHING.
Cons: The concierge area. Great staff, but it's a podium. A desk so guests can sit across would be great. Maybe low fence between patio @ sidewalk.
Location: There's nothing you can't get to VERY easily by subway or walking from here.
I booked this on-line with no more information than anyone would find, so I felt like I won the lottery when we arrived. We were literally one block from the Empire State Building, but on a short side street. The management thought to set the hotel back a bit from the sidewalk and include a large cement patio with potted plants, tables, chairs and umbrellas. Perfect spot to catch our breath, have coffee or drinks, and enjoy the parade of "humans of New York". Nearly all the daytime hotel staff and maintenance people were friendly, helpful and funny. Rates were SUPER compared to other nearby properties. Breakfast included was wonderfully varied, delicious and plentiful. Also, even the furnishings in the breakfast area are classy. Part of the room is in a "frosted" solarium that keeps out unpleasant sights (like bird poo) but lets in just the right amount of light. We'll be back to NYC to see more plays and won't look for a hotel ANYWHERE else.

Winter Birthday Celebrations

This is actually my second time staying at the Hampton for my birthday celebration weekend. The staff is always very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. The hotel lobby was always warm and inviting. My goddaughters enjoyed the coffee and hot chocolate. It was their first trip to NYC so our lodging choice was great; as I knew it would be.

The breakfast is good and can keep you going all morning. I was told Housekeeping stops at 4pm. They will bypass your room if you have the do not disturb sign out and they will not come back. The tv/cable went out a couple of times but it was resolved quickly.

Pleasant Stay but Chaotic Breakfast

My family of four (wife & 2 teen sons) visited NYC last weekend for pleasure & stayed at this Hampton Inn for 3 nights. We primarily chose this hotel because of location, reviews & the breakfast buffet. (With 2 teen sons, that was very important to us.) The only reason I gave them 4 stars on the staff/service was due to breakfast. Keep reading...     We arrived 2 hours before check-in & were pleasantly surprised that a room was ready for us. All of the front desk clerks were friendly & helpful our entire stay. Because of NYC hotels being rather expensive, we figured we could tough it out sharing a room with our sons for 3 nights instead of separate rooms. Unfortunately, it was a room w/ 2 double beds, but we knew that ahead of time. The room was a decent size by NY hotel standards & was very clean w/ nice bed linens. We had 4 people & 5 pcs of luggage & had no problem w/ space. Besides, we were only in there to sleep & dress.  The hotel is in a good location & we always felt safe inside & walking back to it at night. The rooms have a safe in them, so we put valuables in it while we were gone because we've heard stories of laptops, etc disappearing. We were within walking distance to the Empire State Bldg, Times Square, the Subway, etc.      Really, the only negative comment I have about the hotel was the chaotic breakfast. They do have ample seating & the food was good (sausage, eggs, bagels, toast, waffles, fruit, yogurt, etc). However, there was usually one very nice, quiet man who was trying to keep up with it all. As a result, the food serving area quickly became extremely messy & food would run out, which would take awhile to replenish because he was trying to keep the coffee filled, food filled, cleaning up after spoiled guests who didn't clean up after themselves, etc. I don't blame the poor guy. I blame Hampton Inn because they really needed about 3 people working the breakfast area.      The only reason I gave them 4 stars on the value for money is because for a small hotel room, it's just pricey, but that's NY!  Another attaboy/girl I'll give them was for the front desk customer service. After the first night when our sons realized they wouldn't get much rest sleeping together, we asked the front desk for more blankets/sheets to make a pallet & they gladly brought us some.     Overall, our stay at the HI was very pleasant, & we would stay there again.

nice room, great location to shops and sights in Manhatten, wonderful breakfast

Pros: Free breakfast, Close restaurants, Free Internet, great location to subway shops etc., front desk will hold baggage
We stayed here December 26-27 2012 (two adults and two children) to visit NY city around the holidays. The room was nice and clean, had everything we needed and even had a good selection of tv channels for the kids to watch at night. I was very impressed with the selection offered at breakfast and that there is a small area on the back of the first floor with beverages (tea, coffee, hot chocolate, water) that came in handy when we had to wanted something warm to drink after being outside on a cold winter day. We purchased tickets for the Empire State building from the concierge in the lobby and thought the staff were friendly and nice. It was also nice that we could leave our luggage with the front desk after we checked out and still wanted to do some shopping that day before leaving NY city. The parking is separate from the hotel on the next street (36th street) but we had no problems with them and although I didn't leave anything valuable in my car (just in case) I was glad to see my car was safe and nothing was taken.
