2/10 Terrible

I stayed in Room 609 from February 14 to the morning of February 15. This review is being written to formally document a billing issue regarding my refundable incidentals deposit. At check-in, I was informed of the standard $50 refundable deposit for incidentals. Upon checkout, only $40 was returned. When I contacted the hotel, I was told that $10 was withheld because I allegedly “opened” the two bottles of water in the room ($5 each). I did not open, consume, or tamper with those bottles in any way. They were left exactly as provided. In fact, I left $35 on the bed for housekeeping as a courtesy and gesture of appreciation for the room being prepared prior to my arrival. Being accused of opening bottled water and having part of my deposit withheld under these circumstances is both troubling and unacceptable. When I inquired further, I was told the $10 would be refunded, yet no timeframe was provided and no explanation was given as to what verification process was used before determining that a charge was warranted. Was management notified? Was the room inspected by a supervisor? Was there photographic documentation of opened items? Or are guests’ deposits reduced based solely on a report without independent confirmation? Withholding funds from a refundable deposit without clear proof or transparency raises serious concerns regarding internal billing practices. Guests should not bear the burden of disproving incidental charges for items they did not use.
