I didn't stay at the Mackinac Lodge! They over booked and bumped me to another location (the rundown Starlite Budget Inn). This location was a step above a cardboard box: dated, smelly, dirty. I reserved this room in January. No reason, no excuse, no care from the staff. I booked a room with TWO BEDS, AND GOT A ROOM WITH ONE BED. It was farther away to downtown, restaurants, etc. I was given coupons to restaurants, but the first two restaurants we went to were closed. Even the coupons are outdated! I had to drive to where the maid was to get the key to our room! This place was so outdated it had an actual key, not a card to enter the room. I had to go to the store to get cleaning supplies because this place stunk to badly, sleeping there was going to be a challenge. The air conditioner was not working well since it was from the 1980s. All the writing had been worn off, so it took a bit of trial and error to get it blowing out cold air. It took a few hours to get the room cooled down comfortable enough to sleep. I don't understand why I was bumped to a different location and not the person who booked after me. This was a busy Holiday weekend in a tourist town. My options were very limited on staying anywhere else. So, I accepted the room offered at the budget motel. I am livid. This was a horrible experience. I planned several months in advance so as to not have this kind of problem. Is it the fault of the motel? Travelocity? So much more could be said. So, so disappointing.

The check in staff was very nice, however the name of the hotel is not displayed, and it was difficult to find. I feel like the hotel could have been a bit cleaner. The carpet felt dirty and sticky. The shower head is at chest level and it made it tricky to shower. The coffee maker was missing a piece so we couldn’t use it. Needless to say, I definitely won’t be staying again.

The rooms were updated, clean and comfortable. For those of you pulling boats there’s no adequate parking for your rig we had to park across the street which was inconvenient.

Signage, I didn’t even know there were cabins when I book and we drove by twice because sign said mackinaw cabins and I booked at mackinaw lodge. So when I checked in I said we’ve been driving around because there is no street number on property and all we saw were cabins. He said we should have know from the picture. A lady looking for an ice machine said don’t feel bad we couldn’t find it either. Also the bathroom lights were just a hole in the ceiling with 2 bulbs, and there was black mold all around the tub. Pulled down the covers and our blanket had at least five 3 inch holes. Checkout was very friendly and they filled out a maintenance slip. Great location.

Motel name has changed to Cabins but it was not mentioned anywhere. You will not find it if you are looking for the Mackinaw Lodge.

The room was comfortable and in good condition. Just a few blocks from downtown. My only issue was the name on the listing and the name on the sign were different. The listing shows Mackinac Lodge, the sign in front says Mackinac Cabins.
