Hotel was okay. Nothing more. It would help if the lake had paddleboats etc.

Thank you for your input. The lodge isn't fancy but the real beauty is on the outside. With every room facing Sharp Top mtn and Abbott Lake you couldn't ask for a more picturesque spot. There have been discussions with the park service regarding paddle board but disrupting the wildlife is a major concern. We are constantly adding on and improving services so we hope you will visit again.

Serene setting right off the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Pros: The setting and food were stellar. The beds were clean and comfortable.
Cons: The bathroom could use some updating!
Location: Vistas and hiking!
We will definitely return to the Peaks of Otter. Very serene setting right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The staff were very nice and truly accommodating. We ate at the restaurant which was excellent!

We spent a wonderful, relaxing night at this delightful hotel on the superb Blue Ridge Parkway. It was so unique and such a change from the chain hotels we had used previously while travelling. Fantastic room, helpful staff full of character, superb, freshly cooked meals and silence!!! We loved the birdlife, surroundings and enjoyed lovely, sunny weather. If we ever return to the USA we want to revisit this paradise!

A great weekend stop

Pros: The hiking available so close. The AT runs through this area and accessible in several nearby spots. The Johnson farm trail is right at the lodge.
Cons: The walls need insulation. Even being quiet we could hear our neighbors simple conversations. A bit of upgrade on the furniture is needed.
Location: Fisher's is a great breakfast place with amazing french toast recipe. The visitor center and D- day memorial keep the good half of a day.
The lodge is conveniently located right on the Blue Ridge Parkway and the town of Bedford lies below. A stroll around the lake or even putting in a fishing lure complements the real hiking trails in the area, most easy to moderate. but the town of Bedford has the D-day Memorial which is a historians highlight. The lodge has a great dining area but the town also offers up some unique hometown foods. The lodge rooms are built with thin walls so you may hear a few conversations but the visit to the area is worth a little noise. Remember to practice quite time when you can. did I mention it's pet friendly too.

Just LOVELY!

Pros: Surroundings (view), directly off of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Even though built in the early 60's, it is sooooo clean and it has been taken care of.
Cons: Not much... Everyone was very friendly and helpful, but the servers in the restaurant could be a little faster, especially a breakfast and lunch.
Location: The views alone is almost good enough. There are hiking trails (& a shuttle available) to Sharp Top Mtn, Flat Top Mtn, Cascade Falls, Gift Shop, etc.
I have always wanted to stay at this lodge, since I was 12 years old and stayed at the nearby camp ground with my parents. The room was very clean and relaxing. Not all of the "extras" that you see in fancy hotels, but the point is to "disconnect" from day to day and relax. The view from the private balcony of Abbott Lake and Sharp top mountain was just beautiful in the evening and the morning with the sun rise and a cup coffee from the in room coffee machine. The restaurant was wonderful. The dinner, breakfast & lunch were delicious, but the service was a little slow at breakfast and lunch, when people are usually on a sort of schedule. The homemade blackberry ice cream pie w/ homemade meringue was to die for. The live music played during dinner (local guitar and fiddle player) was great. The ladies at the check in desk were so helpful with answers to questions and a few other items. I can usually find many things wrong with any place I stay. Not this time. I would love to live at this lodge if I could and can't wait to go back. Highly recommend... On second thought, stay away..... I want the place to myself :-)

RUSTIC, BASIC, AND CLEAN-BUT WHAT A VIEW

Pros: Close restaurants, Quiet, views
tHE ROOM IS LARGE AND VERY BASIC, NO PHONE OR TV, BUT WHO NEEDS IT WITH THE VIEW OF THE LAKE AND SURROUNDING MOUNTIANS. THE PATIO OR DECK OFF THE FRONT OF THE ROOM IS A GREAT PLACE TO READ A BOOK OR ENJOY A BOTTLE OF WINE.THE RESTAURANT FOOD AND SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD, ALSO WITH A GREAT VIEW. THIS IS LIKE A NATIONAL PARK LODGE, NOT THE HYATT. THE WALK AROUND THE LAKE IS A MUST.
