Staff is perfection, but IT'S LOUD on the weekends

Pros: Location was perfect for most of our planned activities.
Cons: Perhaps they could turn down the weekend music a decibel or two.
Location: Grand Central Market is just blocks away. Public Schoolhouse across from the hotel is great for drinks and dinner.
We booked this hotel based on its close proximity to an event we had to attend over the weekend of September 18. We arrived at 3:00pm on a Friday afternoon and were greeted by the very helpful and courteous valet staff. The front desk staff were equally as welcoming. We were given a room on the 5th floor overlooking the valet lot. It was a particularly warm day and the AC was off so we immediately turned it to the lowest setting possible but couldn't hear or feel anything. A quick call to the front desk and we discovered that the hotel features a "soundless AC system". As promised we felt relief within 15 minutes. We left the hotel an hour later and didn't return until 11:30pm. When we saw a huge line snaking around the building waiting to join the rooftop festivities, we knew it was not going to be a quiet evening. From our 5th story room we could hear the music as if it was coming from the room next door. Earplugs were definitely needed (and provided by the hotel, just ask the front desk!) As I attempted to fall asleep I wondered why they would put a soundless AC system in a hotel where noise was an issue at least 2 nights out of the week when white noise would actually be a welcome distraction? Anyway, Saturday night was much less noisy but perhaps only because there was a private event on the rooftop that night. I'm glad we stayed but we won't be returning only because we prefer a quieter environment.

The hotel is in a great location downtown; however, the hotels interior isn't like the pictures on the website. The rooms were very basic with uncomfortable mattresses and pillows. The bathroom wasn't the cleanest either, we found hair in the shower. The floor needed to be vacuumed also. The hotel staff was pleasant with trying to accommodate my dissatisfaction. I wouldn't go here again especially not for the price we paid. Hotel needs more accommodations for travelers, no microwave in the facility.

Hotel that tries to be avant-garde but falls short

Pros: Central location. Reasonable price. Great mini-bar
Cons: Provide curtain against glass wall in bathroom for privacy.
Bathroom has no privacy: wall between bathroom and bedroom is clear class and is also the wall where the shower is located. OK for single traveler, but awkward for some couples and families. I was on 4th floor and loud music at bar didn't end until after midnight, making it hard to sleep. Bed is on a raised platform that is a trip hazard.

Recommend only if you are a young couple!

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet
Cons: Noisy
I like this place and have been going here for the rooftop for the past 5 years. It is a boutique hotel with open bathtub. Which can be fun, but I do not recommend for families or old-fashioned couples. If you are young and are ready to grab drinks on rooftop or in downtown area and DO NOT care about noisy rooftop visitors until 2 am, I highly recommend! If you want luxury LUXURY, go to Ritz-Carlton or JW Marriot in downtown.

Great service

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, really big bath tub, close to metro station
Everything was clean and everyone was really nice. Although it was in downtown LA, we did not notice the noise from the streets. One thing that bothered us was that you're paying for the hotel room, but if you or one of your friends are under 21 you cannot go swimming on the weekends after 6. It turns into a night club and they will not let you go even if its just for swimming.

Don't be fooled!

Supposedly sleek and trendy...more like shabby and cheap! Furniture was cheesy and IKEA-esque. Low bed (on an elevated platform) with a TV on a low shelf--couldn't even see the TV! My husband and I are in our late 20s/early 30s and enjoy getting the "experience" of any place we travel to--thought The Standard would epitomize the L.A. experience--sadly, we were unimpressed. Room was bare. Lobby was outdated. Strongly recommend staying elsewhere!!!

funky hotel!

this joint was really cool! It was very LA! The staff was outstanding, super nice, especially the servers in the diner-- they made sure my coffee cup was always full each morning!! The bathtub is enormous AND they have mr bubble! this place was great-- my only negative is that it was downtown-- not too much going on over the weekend-- but there were some great pubs int the area-- The rooftop pool and bar was a cool place to hang out! We had a blast and I would so stay at the Standard again!

Trendy hotel but there isn't much in the area during the weekend so you must rent a car

Cons: Noisy
There are hardly any charis by th pool, and there is a great pool party w/DJ's etc. however, it is terrible that they make hotel guests who have been at the pool since early morning, evacuate and go downstairs to get a wrist band for the party and access to the pool so you have to fight with a mob of people that aren't hotel guests to get a band, by the time you go back up to the pool area, your chairs and space are gone. They should have a process where they give hotel guests band upon checking into hotel or at the pool area v/s making us waste our vacation/lounge time fighting in a line for access which we have paid for!

I really liked this hotel for the modern feel. I am always down to experience new and interesting places and this one definitely one of those. I really liked the bar up top, had a very nice view of down town. Real relaxed feel and fun hotel. the rooms were a lot of fun and different. only complaint...would have liked a complementry breakfast..:)
