Not so clean, noisy, staff ok. Cheap. Adding more about my experience.

Relatively cheap if you hold out for discounts.

Pros: Location was a few blocks from the central area. Fruit and candy in lobby.
Cons: When customers book a room with a tub, don't "upgrade" them to a room without one.
Location: Walking distance to the hubbub of Fremont street. About 7 miles from The Strip.
I booked this hotel rather than the much cheaper one down the street because the other one offered only a shower, and no tub; when I travel I do a lot of walking and like to soak my tired muscles in a tub. When I arrived, I was told I'd gotten a free "upgrade" to a "Jr. Suite" (a slightly larger standard hotel room) across the street. Which had only a shower and no tub. I couldn't find a place near the bed to plug in my phone but luckily I travel with an extension cord. The shampoo and conditioner I used the first day were never replaced, though the second morning two small free water bottles showed up. (Luckily I paid attention and didn't mistake the $5.00 water bottles sitting on the counter for the complimentary water promised in the room description.) The fridge for my water was nice, though. It was only too loud to sleep one of the nights; I'd paid extra for a tower room hoping to be above the noise. (It was my first time in Vegas so I have no idea whether anything else would have been better. The sleazy "resort fee" was a lot lower than some other hotels nearby. Sheesh! Why not just raise the room rates so people can do honest price comparisons and pre-pay the whole rate? A friend staying in the hotel paid half the rate I did. I cancelled with another site and rebooked here to get a lower rate as the rates had changed (on both sites at the same time.)

The El Cortez for a one week stay.

Pros: Friendly staff. Excellent food . A good variety of gambling options.
Cons: Everything is adequate the way it is.
Location: Excellent location in the core of the old original downtown area of Las Vegas.
It is the best quality for the best price. It is also convenient to everything downtown and only one block from Las Vegas Blvd. The Vintage rooms are very nice and well kept. The staff is professional and friendly . It is also nice to watch Keno from the room on the El Cortez channel. There is also a Laundromat 12 blocks away so a person can travel light and do laundry in mid week.

Nice older hotel in downtown

Reception here is hit and miss, sometimes they are in a bad mood at check-in, aside from that happy feet massage is closed and front desk does not know they are closed. Decent value for the room, it was ok.

OKAY

Pros: Location, price, restaurant.
Cons: Housekeeping needs to scour bathroom floor and shower floor!!
Location: Walking distance to Freemont, Container Park, and Art District activities.
Housekeeping could have done a better job in the bathroom, which I cleaned up (minor soil spots/smudges on floor, door, shower floor) with a hand towel. Beds are too firm for my liking. The din and sounds from nearby Freemont Experience barely penetrated the room. Siegel's Restaurant (Casino) serves up good quality meals at decent prices; Wednesday specials for seniors 50+. Walking distance to many activities. No Pool.

Hotel needs updating.

Drains in the rooms are slow. Room had a smell of muskiness to it.

Nice hotel.

Staff was amazing. The only things I would fix are the tub/shower was the cleanest, when our room was "cleaned" the sheets weren't changed, trash wasn't taken out, & old blankets were left that smelt like smoke from previous stayers. Besides that, best staff I've ever encountered.

Quick Weekend Getaway

Pros: The room was extremely nice, we stayed in the Jr. Suite and it was everything you needed in a hotel room.
Cons: They charged me one price when I checked in and said they under charged me when I checked out. Taking the difference from my security deposit. Not ok.
Location: Gold Spike and Nacho Daddy are places I would recommend.
Checking-in to the hotel was the worst part about this trip BUT it wasn't the hotels fault but Travelocity. When I went to check-in they couldn't find my reservation (which I had done a few weeks in advanced), I showed my confirmation email and they had trouble getting into Travelocity's website causing me not to be able to check-in for about 20 minutes. They were very apologetic that they were having difficulties with Travelocity. After they were about to get into the site and see my confirmation, everything went pretty smoothly. I had to wait 30 minutes for them to clean a room but I just went and explored Fremont St.

Nice downtown location

Pros: Location
Cons: Mattress
Location: Close to the bars and restaurant.
Everything is nice given the price range. Location is perfect. It's close to everything I want to go to in downtown. Room is clean. Only thing is that the bed is somewhat uncomfortable, but bearable, it seems like underneath the sheets is a plastic cover, and I can feel the springs of the mattress is some areas. And also, if you happen to play the slot machine late at night, there are beggars asking for money, they're not violent or anything like that, just kinda disturbing though.
