This property is in terrible shape. Floors are cracked, bed is 20 years old, doors will not close or lock, leaky roof, bugs and paper thin walls. Office closes at their leisure and property is not supervised. There was a fight at the pool one night and a loud party the other night. Place need to be condemned and torn down.

Thank You for taking the time to Rate Our Property, We have chosen to work on the infastructure of the property before the upgrades. Beds were all replaced after 2 - Category 5 hurricanes caused much destruction. Hence the reason for not raising our rates, but rolling back to rates of 2015 - prior to the Hurricanes. As far as supervision, We apologize about the party, the Birthday Girl and her guests were confronted at the time of their arrival or it could have been far worse.

Upon checking in Faye was very pleasant and extremely helpful. However the room needed some upgrades. The shower curtain was dirty. Although everything was clean, things could’ve been upgraded a little differently. It was as very difficult place to get cabs. The drivers weren’t always willing to come pick people up by this facility when traveling to red Hawk for the ferry and other sites with a distance. The iron was broke, there are no blackout curtains and dishes are old too.

Thank You for the review. We appreciate you taking time to give us an honest review. We are working on upgrading the property. It has been a Long Slow Process! With the Taxi's - we seem to have lost a lot with Covid, It has been difficult to get Taxi's from the Largest Association on the Island to make these runs, we have addressed this concern with the Taxi Association and know that there is room for much improvement. Sorry about the Iron, I wasn't informed. Will replace. Again Thank You for the review and choosing Sunset Gardens for your accommodations

Could not sleep in this hotel

While the room had a nice few I had trouble sleeping because the light outside the door was on all night shining through the window at the door. I'm used to sleep in total darkness and this was a torture. I asked the front desk if they could turn off the light at night or at least cover the door window. This worked for one night after that a piece of cloth was covering the light to shield it a little bit. However, even that was gone at my last night, so sleepless again. The room was small and clean but needs work. The towel holder fell off the wall and never was fixed although I reported it. The thermostat on the AC did not work so it was either freezing cold or air only, the TV remote control did not work properly for turning the TV off and on (channel switching was ok) The pool was not cleaned in 4 days and was full of leaves and not usable. The ownersmanagers must be living at the next unit as I could hear their TV and conversations through the wall. I was for work in St. Thomas and needed to stay 5 more days after the reservation expired and while I usually try to stay at the same hotel if I need to extent my stay I was gald to move on to another hotel for a good night sleep.

Wonderful private place to stay

Pros: Free Internet, Quiet
If you are looking for a place away from the mainstream tourist spots, this is the place for you. It is located on the side of a mountain above the harbor. You can stand on the balcony and watch the boats come into the harbor. You have all the privacy you ask for. We arrived a day late because of Hurricane Irene and everything was ready for us. We experienced the wonderful hospitality of the island because of the graciousness of the staff. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

A Diamond in the Rough!

On arrival, I looked at my husband and said "what did you get us into?" The property is still in the final stage of construction, even the office is not complete and hard to locate. After getting checked in and going to our room, we found it small, but clean and comfortable, but very small. Furnishings are a little outdated for such a new property. Maid service is extra! Laundry on property though! We spoke with the property manager about the best way to get around since we chose not to rent a car. We hiked down the hill, bought groceries and grabbed a taxi back up to the property. We settled in and went to the pool for a swim. This is when everything changed for me and was truly the beginning of a memorable vacation. The residents and the staff are very friendly and helpful, plus lots of fun. We truly enjoyed the peace and tranquility, as well as the views of the harbors and watching the cruise ships come and go. We loved grilling by the pool and chatting with others on vacation, as well as those living there. This is definitely not a resort, definitely not on the beach, since it sits up on a mountain, but close enough, at least for us. Poolside WIFI access, was a pain, especially when it rained! Yet, I honestly believe that by staying at Sunset Gardens, we made more life long friends, and memories, and definitely experienced more of the island than if we had stayed at one of the resorts. I will be following their progress and look forward to seeing it in its completed state, as we will definitely be coming back.
