Space Needle & SkyCity

Seattle offers a number of fun ways to see the city and the Space Needle is a family favorite. Travel upwards 520 feet for a spectacular view of the city and even Mount Rainier. It’s open Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m. – 12 a.m., so you can travel to the top during the light of day or enjoy the city lights at night. You can even dine at 500 feet at the SkyCity Restaurant. The restaurant revolves, giving you a panoramic view of the city, and every visit to SkyCity includes a free trip to the Space Needle’s observation deck. Before your trip, check out the Pano Cam on the Space Needle’s website, where you can get a virtual near real time panoramic view, check out the timelapse, and see best views from the past.
Chihuly Garden & Glass

While at the Space Needle, this nearby attraction is not to be missed — Chihuly Garden & Glass. It is a long-term exhibit in the Seattle Center and is one that your family will never forget. It is a comprehensive collection of colorful and vibrant glass artwork from Dale Chihuly. Outside, you can wander through the gardens and see the sunlight shine through the sculptures among beautiful camellias, daylilies, fuschias, and more. Inside, intricate and beautiful glasswork hangs from the ceiling or is showcased in the eight galleries and Glasshouse. There is also a theater with videos that show Chihuly’s working process and you can watch the team work in the hotshop and create these memorable works of art.
Underground Tour

As mentioned above, you can see the city of Seattle in a number of ways, but one of the most unique and historical is through Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour. On this guided walking tour, you roam the passages that were once the main roadways and first floor storefronts. Seattle was built on tideflats, which would cause the streets to be so mudfilled they would be impassable. After the Great Seattle Fire in of 1889, the city used retaining walls to raise the streets, making them one story higher. Some building owners still built on the low, muddy ground even though their shops and restaurants would soon become basements. Eventually sidewalks bridged the gaps, creating the underground passageways. The tour guides are funny and present history with a twist. This is one way to see the city that you’ll remember for years to come.
Pike Place Market

Add this popular tourist stop and local hot spot to your family travel itinerary. Pike Place Market is a great way to spend a few hours checking out the bakeries, fish markets, butcher shops, produce stands, specialty food stores, and a crafts market, as well as 80 restaurants. You can shop for fresh produce, pastries, flowers, jewelry, crafts, books, and everything in between. They also have free Family Fun Nights with cooking demos, arts and crafts, live music, book readings, scavenger hunts and more.
Seattle is a wonderful place to bring your family with all of its sightseeing opportunities and fascinating local history. Mixed with popular tourist attractions, there is something for every member of the family to enjoy, making it a trip you will remember for years to come.
