Before I get into the meat of this article, I just have to say I never thought I would be the one tapped to write romantic articles, but here we are. You see, back in July 2016, I proposed to the love of my life and everything changed. I’m now the guy preparing for his wedding, and as a travel writer, this means I look at hotels, resorts, destinations, spa treatments and decor differently. I’m in constant investigation mode, hence why I was the perfect candidate to head to Mexico to do a little resort research.

Just north of the Cancun airport–about 30-minutes or so–you will find the beautiful, pristine peninsula of Playa Mujeres. Think of it as a sister to Cancun, only removed from the hustle and bustle of the famed strip, chock-full of world-class design, hospitality and luxury.

What makes Playa Mujeres so ideal for a romantic getaway is the fact that it is away from the “Spring Break crowd,” the ones that can be a bit too loud when you’re trying to feel like the only couple at the resort.
All-inclusive Resorts for Every Couple
Choosing all-inclusive for your romantic getaway is a no-brainer. What better way to start your vacation than with the peace of mind that everything has already been taken care of? Especially when it starts with a black car service (Seasons Tours) that picks you up at the Cancun airport and a staff that greets you with a cold towel and glass of champagne upon arrival.
During my recent investigative stay in Mexico, our group had the pleasure of sampling the 3 Excellence Group luxury all-inclusive resorts in Playa Mujeres—all of which are walking distance from one another. From the amazing rooms at Finest, to the spa at Beloved and unforgettable food at Excellence, each has so much to offer. After my week in Mexico, I’m positive that with Excellence Group you’re sure to have a romantic time with your significant other, no matter where you choose to stay.
Exquisite Suites in All Shapes and Sizes
Junior Swim-up, Ocean View, Two-story Rooftop Terrace — whatever kind of suite you desire, Excellence Group resorts have it. Each resort features spacious rooms at all levels, with scenic views and an indoor jacuzzi perfect for relaxing with your significant other.
All resort rooms include in-room premium liquor and wine bottle selection–replenished every day! Talk about luxury. Along with their well equipped mini bar, each room features fresh fruit daily, twice daily maid service, and best of all, 24 hour service-box room service. The latter was something I’ve never had before and now I’m completely spoiled. The service box, or as they call it at the resort, the “x box,” was created for those times you don’t want to be interrupted by room service staff. It’s perfect for couples looking to spend some romantic alone time together without being bothered.

Romantic Spa Treatments
Having a spa day with your loved one is always a great idea, especially when it involves romantic couples’ treatments done together. Since I’m getting married in May at Excellence Riviera Cancun, a fellow sister resort to the Playa Mujeres properties, Beloved was kind enough to set me up with The Beloved Spa’s Lovely Ritual for Two treatment. It’s 80-minutes of bliss, starring you and your partner, receiving a full-body Beloved Massage, choosing your synergy of oils (eucalyptus, rosemary or peppermint), followed by a milk mousse
bath with scalp massage.

The treatment concludes in the tub together, accompanied by a glass of champagne and delicious little chocolates to share.

Delectable Dining Experiences
If you’ve stayed at an all-inclusive before, you know that food plays a major role. Overindulging is not only accepted, it’s expected. Thankfully for anyone staying at Finest, Beloved, or Excellence Playa Mujeres, there are countless restaurant options, featuring various cuisines and whatever atmosphere you crave.
Fan of Indian food? Then you will love Excellence’s Basmati restaurant. It was in my top 3 restaurants we ate at while in Mexico.
Feeling like enjoying the weather with an al fresco lunch by the water? Try El Mar restaurant at Beloved after your spa treatment. Maybe the chef will make you his delicious chocolate mousse dessert too!
When romance is calling, make sure you and your partner grab a table at Chez Isabelle for some heavenly French cuisine. It’s the quietest and most romantic dining option at the resort.
Let’s be honest, the restaurants have to be good if they can tear you away from the comfort of your suite, right?
All in all, Excellence Group has dominated the luxury all-inclusive space in Playa Mujeres. They have blown away my expectations of service to the point where they’ve set the new bar for future trips. Though I spent the majority of my time at Finest Playa Mujeres, I’m eager to return and experience an entire stay at both Excellence and Beloved Playa Mujeres.
