A city known as “Beantown” is synonymous with romance, is it not? All joking aside, this city really is an ideal destination for couples to explore together, no matter what you and your significant other are looking for. Boston is rich in history and culture, not to mention the incredible dining options. And to top it all off, there’s no shortage of fun activities that will ensure you and your sweetheart have an unforgettable trip experiencing all the city has to offer.

Game Plan

If sports is your love language, then Fenway Park is a no-brainer. Of course, you can go to a Red Sox game (duh), or if you’re looking to switch things up, watch the game from Bleacher Bar (no tickets required). Be forewarned, you have to get there early, and I mean early, to get a good spot. If the Red Sox aren’t playing, you can take a guided tour of Fenway Park that believe it or not, is really enjoyable even for non-baseball enthusiasts.

Soak Up Some Culture

Boston is home to a wide array of museums, everything from The Museum of Natural History to the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museums. But for the most romantic experience, head to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, a gorgeous mansion filled with beautiful works of art by Degas, Matisse, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Picasso, and many others. For a stunning display of music and architecture, attend a performance of the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall. There isn’t a bad seat in the hall, and you can even make it a day-time outing if you catch one of their afternoon performances (which are also less expensive).

Take a quiet stroll in a “secret” garden at the Cambridge Center Roof Garden. It’s actually located on the roof of a parking garage, but don’t let that deter you. It’s the perfect place for an afternoon date and a peaceful escape from the city. Get a spectacular 360-degree view of Boston from 700 feet up at the Skywalk Observatory which is just as striking (and even more romantic) when viewed at night. While you’re there, enjoy dinner with the Boston skyline as your backdrop at Top of the Hub.

Activities for Two

Ice skating on the Boston Common Frog Pond is a must. Yes, it sounds cliché. But there’s a reason you see it in so many romantic movies. Because it works. There’s nothing cuter than holding hands while skating. And if you’re as remarkably uncoordinated as I am, then you can desperately cling to your significant other while trying not to fall, which is also kind of sweet too. Plan a date night and take a gondola ride on the Charles River with Gondola di Venezia. This just may be THE definition of romantic clichés, but neither of you will care because being in love makes cheesy romance perfectly acceptable and wonderful. So, you’re off the hook. Go ahead and enjoy it!

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

Beer lovers, rejoice! Go on the Sam Adams Brewery Tour, because you’re in Boston… you have to. And check out Harpoon Brewery too, while you’re at it. If you prefer wine over beer, Les Zygomates (pronounced lay-zee-go-matt) is a wine bar and bistro with stellar food, a cozy but upscale atmosphere, and live jazz. Satisfy your sweet tooth with some ultra-rich gourmet chocolates from L.A. Burdick Chocolate. All that’s missing is the rose petals!

For you foodies, there are so many fabulous restaurants to dine at. Trust me, you will have a hard time narrowing it down. If you’re looking for something casual, The Brewer’s Fork is a gastropub with top-notch pizza and a charcuterie board that is to die for. Hit up Sportello for a completely unique Italian dining experience, as you sit around a counter and watch the chefs prepare your food. You can’t leave Boston without trying the seafood, and Row 34 is the perfect spot for phenomenal oysters and hard-to-find local beers. And if you’re ready to shell out a week’s worth of pay (but feel astonishingly satisfied about your decision afterwards), there’s a 24-course grand omakase at an intimate restaurant called O Ya that will blow your mind and your taste buds.
