Kamaka Cabin -A rainforest retreat near Natl. Park
Tucked away on 3 quiet acres of native Hawaiian rainforest and just 2 miles from Volcanoes National Park, this cabin is the perfect place to unwind with family and friends.
This home has been purposefully built out of cedar boards and beams, giving it the unique ability to naturally weather the moisture and environment of the rainforest while amplifying its connection to the surrounding forest.
As soon as you walk in, the soaring ceilings featuring tongue and groove cedar direct your gaze to the massive wall of windows, providing an immersive view of the Ohia forest (native Hawaiian tree) beyond.
The open-concept living room, furnished with a cozy couch, chairs, and blankets, is perfect for reading a book in the misty quiet of the rainforest. The living room transitions to the kitchen, which offers a rustic yet highly functional finish. All the amenities you need to prep, cook, and entertain have been provided.
Up the stairs, you will find an even more immersive view through the windows. In addition, there is a smart TV and couch for enjoying movies, a daybed for afternoon naps or extra family, and a full bathroom with a shower.
Down the hallway on the main floor, you will find 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a comfy king-size bed and an en suite bathroom with a shower. The other two rooms share a bathroom with a tub/shower combo. One room has a queen bed, and the other has two twin beds.
You will have complete access to the cabin. The main floor includes an open-concept kitchen and living room, 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large lanai (patio), and an open loft with a couch, flatscreen TV, and daybed.
Our hosts live on site and are there to assist when needed, but will otherwise give you privacy to enjoy the space.
The cabin is located in Volcano Village, a small and quiet town with just a few coffee shops and restaurants and an active arts center. Due to the large amounts of sunshine and rain, the area has lush foliage and abundant wildlife.
Due to the village’s remoteness, a car is vital for getting to and from it and also makes access to the National Park easier.
Guests will have the pictured cabin space to themselves. Our onsite hosts live in a completely separate unit on the bottom floor of the cabin. They’re there to assist you with anything you may need but will otherwise give you space and privacy. The homes are locked off from each other, and there are no common areas.
There is also a small cottage adjacent to the cabin that shares the driveway. This space may house different Airbnb guests but is a great option if you have a large group. Discounts can be offered if you book the cabin and cottage together. The property is shared with another Airbnb listing. Please keep outside noise to a minimum.

Family time
We enjoyed Kamaka cabin…the spacious second floor and the loft. The games were very much appreciated… especially since it rained day and night . My only concern the outside light near the stairs going up to the second floor , does not light up. Making it hard to see at night in the dark…we had to use our phones for light .

Volcano Huaka’i
Our stay was short. 1 night. Spur of the moment trip from Waimea to Volcano! Super easy. Quick response and communication from host. The cabin is amazing. Rustic, cozy, spacious, and had every thing we needed except foil haha. We had so much fun and will definitely be back!
We had a fantastic stay at Kamaka Cabin! Its convenient location near Kīlauea made it perfect for visiting the volcano both during the day and in the evening. The cabin was incredibly clean and spacious, making it ideal for larger groups. Next time we're in the Volcano area, we’ll definitely book Kamaka Cabin again!

Volcano stay
We had a good time at the Volcano National Park and did several hikes. The place was close to the park and communications with the manager was good. Nice big living room and outdoor patio that we enjoyed.

Property is generally as it appears on the AB&B listing. MBR bath (walk-in tub) needs to be renovated.

National Park
Plenty of space. A little musty inside. Parking is a bit tight if all three units are occupied. Had issues with water cutting off, and it took quite awhile for hot water to develop for showers. Great location to Volcano National Park. House just needs a few upgrades, but it was fine.

Comfortable spacious casual
Great house with plenty of space. Voluminous vaulted ceilings in the main room with massive window wall, great inside outside feel. Five minutes from everything in town. House manager lives downstairs and was very welcoming, made us feel at home.
