Perfect gateway to the lakes.

This is such a fantastic hotel. The rooms are clean, tasteful and comfortable. We came here for a romantic getaway and came back 2 weeks later with our daughter. Great location. A person slice of heaven.

Lovely location in the lakes and nice and quiet. Spa was also nice with a great view! However what’s included and the facilities don’t really match what’s there - breakfast isn’t included unless you pay despite it saying everywhere on Expedia that it is, and having no option to add it. Some staff very condescending when we tried to query this, or declined a paid room upgrade we didn’t need and it made us feel below them, like we were cheapskates when just trying to get what we paid for, which dampened the whole experience. Some staff were lovely and helpful however. Food is nice, but very overpriced in the restaurants as they know there’s nowhere else to eat nearby. Room was noisy and you could hear everyone walking around above and below at all hours. Endless loop of the same 20 guitar/piano pop covers on 24/7 will drive you nuts if you sit in the lounge areas for more than an hour! Lake cruise boat outside and the beautiful area are the big, but some of the few highlights. We had a nice time, but I don’t think we’ll be back!

Every aspect of the hotel was great. The location, building and presentation. Staff were fantastic, Lake View room was a treat and offered a very large double comfortable bed. The only down point was that our room was not serviced following our first night stay. Although reception was informed during the afternoon the room did not get serviced or towels changed. Spoke to house keeping next day and again by 3pm the housekeeping staff had disappeared and the room was not serviced. Complained at Reception and room was eventually serviced !

A review of 2 halves...the restaurant served remarkable food, the location on the lake shore is idyllic and the swimming pool with open access to a private lake side garden is very special. Even better if...they turned the heating down/off when it's 20⁰ outside. My room and corridor outside were stifling for 48 hours even after I'd turned the bathroom radiator off. The noise from the kitchen staff in the yard below was disruptive and given the room temperature, the choice was air or quiet. Reception were very quick to respond positively when I called at 9pm to advise of the loud banter below.

We stayed in the family suite. The main parts of the hotel were very nice and well maintained. The restaurant and restaurant staff were an asset to this hotel. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 starts was our room. It really needs an update. in its current state, the family suite is a bit dated and not inline with rest of the hotel. We were told the rooms will get updates over the winter months. Once this is done, this is a gem of a hotel! We really enjoyed the boat service infront of the hotel.

Stayed here a few times and it is really beautiful inside and out. The bar and restaurant staff are the only reason the fifth star is missing. Nothing is explained in the restaurant with regards to menus and the service is slow. They also often forget orders or get them wrong and that seems to be consistent throughout the whole of the waiting staff. Reception staff are good and friendly but again don’t explain the bill at the end of the stay. So I’ll let you know now when in the restaurant, the food and drinks are charged separately on your final invoice. The room was great my kids and dog loved it and the pool is lovely and relaxing. Overall a great stay and I will be returning many more times hopefully.

Nice hotel. Lots of renovation and work being done to the property. Thoughtful approach to communial areas. Room was big with lovely view but no fridge or air con. A fan was on offer but this was noisy. Staff clearly all had roles within the hotel. Cleaners were very polite and friendly. Other staff seemed to be fixed within their roles and a little flexibility might have been useful - twice at breakfast and once in the evening people were waiting to be seated with waiting staff appearing to be available but the 'host' unavailable. I think this would be an easy fix with bar and serving staff just commenting to waiting guests 'hello, somene will be with you soon'. When the staff were undertaking their roles they were polite and helpful.

The low score was for the shower in our room. Ran it for 5 minutes and had to get someone to come and look at it to try and get it warm. When it did go warm it was hardly coming out. We didn’t ask to Change rooms so it’s on us. Apart from that the staff are great, food was lovely and the surrounding were amazing.

My wife and i stayed here for our Wedding Anniversary, Monday to today. Excellent staff in particular Reception, Noel & Cheys in Brasserie. Btw the back area needs a few cobwebs cleaning around glass panels, a little off-putting but no big deal. Food excellent, views suberb. Boat trips, Aquarium and steam train on the doorstep. Expedia charged an extra £40 per night for the booking, my bill from hotel was £120 less when it was presented to me, they kept that so i will book direct in future. (Do not edit that bit out, booking fee is outrageous!!) Other than that, it was a wonderful relaxing stay. Pool was a decent size too for a morning swim.Thank you to the staff for making it so nice. We loved the history of the property. Our booking was very last minute since we were let down by another hotel. The Lakeside Hotel and Spa is very clean, you can feel the warmth when you walk into the property. Overall it was a good experience. The one thing i did noticed is you have to book your table for dinner every night otherwise you end up without a sit-in dinning. And we ended up skipping dessert a few times because as soon as the restaurants got busy it would take nearly 40minutes to get someone’s attention either for the dessert menu or the bill, i think personally think they may be short staffed? Not sure. But the staff in general are very good and nice people. We would definitely come back for another visit soon.
