More a house of multiple occupation than a hotel

No one on reception at check-in. No response on pressing the bell. Telephone call to given number was met with a promise to send someone. Was left waiting for quarter of an hour waiting for the receptionist to arrive, requiring a second telephone call. Receptionist stares into a key cabinet working out what keys to issue, before finally issuing a key. Generally the hotel was rather grotty and dilapidated, appearing to be more a HMO. Evidently the property a number of permanent or semi-permanent foreign residents, confirmed by a volume of post/mail seen at reception. Parking was also a nightmare.

Needs improvement!!

We didn't expect anything other than basic for the price - we were looking for a cheap bed for the night whilst decorating a house. The bathroom floor is damaged and rotting, but more concerning is the broken towel rail, which my 8 year old cut his head on. I have tried to ring to let the Hotel owners know as the place was unmanned at check out but couldn't get an answer!

Green Gables hotel, next to Falsegrave park

It was ok. The hotel will not suit everyone. The webpage is misleading. No pool, no games room, no bar no dining room. No lounge no conservatory access. My room was fine, it had four beds. All very basic. No heating, it was chilly for april. An electric vector heater provided. It had everything I needed. Kettle, hot water, shower, nice view. I reckon it is also transit accomodation for asylum seekers and/or refugees. Which was fine for me. No noise, in fact I saw very few people. No staff at all. It is beautiful hotel, a little run down, in a lovely location, next to a park. I would stay again. The Scarborough town cryier lives next door, lovely man. I read the reviews before booking so I knew what others have said. Carpark

Lovely building, but run down

Upon arrival no staff was to be seen, but was polite and showed us to our rooms. A few hazards on entry grates raised up on tile flooring at entry ( trip hazard) lift doesnt work. We was there two nights no fresh towels or bedding. Had to buy our own toilet roll. Cleaness needs a good clean over, walls had stains, carpets need a good clean. Overall was warm, comfy. Its a hotel that would have alot of potential or would benefit a good make over. Pictures arent a true image of the hotel people are expecting on arrival. Its a shame its been left to be run down.

Avoid!

Do not recommend this hotel to anyone! Ruined our night away that we had planned as a family. Had to drive the 4 hours home as none of us felt comfortable staying there for the night! Pictures are all lies.

Cheap because it's poor

Green Gables is not an Hotel but a guest house. There is not a receptionist to welcome you and the whole place is very tired and needing an overhaul. Be prepared for a wait to book in. One room we stayed in had a leak under the floor in the bathroom and a carpet that was not fitted. It wasn't even cut to size. A second room had a leaking radiator which could not be used. The flooring is poor in all the rooms we have stayed in (4 in total) It is also very noisy, there are many guests who don't appreciate that some people would like to get to sleep before 11pm. They do provide tea, coffee and cups. Just two per room and only one teaspoon. The bed sheets are thinner than cigarette papers and the beds not that comfortable. The only reason we stayed here is because we were renovating a property that was close by. I certainly won't be returning. It is cheap, and there's a reason. We also had problems with people trying our door, usually between 10pm and 11:15 pm.

Budget, basic room which is exactly what we paid !

We were looking for a cheap, basic bed for the night and this delivered. It was clean, bed not particularly comfortable but certainly adequate for the price. Pretty good plumbing considering the age of the building, and the heating was good! A few snaggy things like a small hole in the wardrobe door and broken sharp towel rail.

We couldnt find a parking space as really busy saturday night and double parking made it imposible to park.

We have stayed here a couple of times before. We have always enjoyed it (yes, it's a big building that has seen better days and is very dated). What has always drawn us here however is the on-site swimming pool.. when we arrived after calling the number at reception we were unfortunately told that the pool was no longer in use. Our children were gutted as that's our main reason for choosing this hotel.. there are cheaper and better options available in the area and having that pool closed indefinitely means, unfortunately, we won't be coming back from now on.

Last minute booking. The room was clean, but matress needs replacing The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. Reception was not covered 24 hours a day, but I was given a contact number to ring if there were any problems. The area around the hotel was tidy and quiet, and I felt safe. No food or bar available, but I was aware when I booked, and there were lots of options 5 minutes walk away. The beach was a 20 minute walk away, and town centre about 15 minutes.
