The property is beautiful. It’s well maintained and is spacious. The hot water in one of the showers didn’t work as well as the built-in ice machine in the fridge. When these issues were raised, the host said that they weren’t emergencies and therefore he didn’t feel he needed to respond to them during our stay. While we didn’t use the hot tub during our stay, it was a nice added feature to the property. The initial listing included access to a separate apartment which included sleeping arrangements as well as a pool table. Once the final payment was made to the host, he reached out to advise that we would no longer have access to this apartment as he needed to stay there. This change was made after the date had passed to receive a full refund. While an initial agreement was made for a minimal reimbursement for the inconvenience, I later determined how significant of an inconvenience it was, causing some guests to have to sleep on a couch. When I reached out to the host to discuss possible further compensation, he ignored me. Overall, the house was clean and well kept however we did observe animal faeces in various places throughout the house, which were believed to be from a mouse although one was never seen. I attempted to reach out to the host while at the property about this issue however, he ignored these messages as well, and then once I checked out from the property and returned home, he responded accusing me of lying, stating that he had checked the property.

Host did not send check in instructions/access code for rental until the day AFTER check in. Customer service called host multiple times on two numbers and no response. Thankfully VRBOs guarantee came through and remedied the situation. On another note the home was large and accommodating except for the no AC and limited fans provided in August heat. This is written in the description but think before booking during summer months. Host accused us damaging hot tub and withheld their promised refund for not providing check in info. Again thank you to VRBO for the refund and making it right when the host would not.

Beautiful Home, But Some ChallengesOur family of seven enjoyed the spacious layout, attractive furniture, and interesting art in this Santa Fe home. However, during warmer weeks, comfort is an issue as other renters have previously noted. There’s no air conditioning, only fans, and some windows — including in the west-facing kitchen — could not be closed, which allowed hot air to fill the space. By late afternoon, the kitchen temperature exceeded 100F.Internet service was slow and intermittent, and a few maintenance items need attention: gardens are dead, blinds had broken slats, some furniture was torn, the oven needed cleaning, and the hot tub required treatment before use, making it unusable for 3 of our 7 days. The owner, who said he was in California and could not address any of our complains, referred us to a local concierge service for any assistance, at an extra cost. With better maintenance, an on site manager and a plan for summer cooling, this could be a truly exceptional rental.

Big House, No A/C, No Problem (for us)
I recently travelled to this house with a group of 8 men for a golf trip. We thoroughly enjoyed Santa Fe, the golf courses and the weather. The house was great...no complaints. We had plenty of room for everyone although 4 of the men had to sleep in twin beds while the other 4 had huge suites. No of them complained but I will say the bedrooms are set up more for families and less for individual people. We came there knowing this and the pictures are accurate. So, again, the place was exactly what we expected. Do NOT stay here if the temperature is over 90 degrees during the day. The house doesn't have air conditioning. When the sun goes down, you will need to open up all the doors and windows and run every fan you can find in order to cool the house. Luckily, we had great weather while we were there so cooling the house after sunset wasn't a problem. Again, the property is great and the owner communicated very well.

Nice big house with a well stocked kitchen. We rented for 3 families with a total of 11 people. We had enough room and privacy for everyone. And the kitchen helped us cook and serve multiple meals. We also made great use of the hot tub, firepit and pool table. Overall and amazing stay in beautiful Santa Fe.

Beautiful home with plenty of space for people to sleep. It's in a secluded neighborhood and great for hosting relaxed get togethers. It's still relatively close to town which makes driving in easy. The host is very responsive over text and fixed a small issue we had within a few hours.

Mostly really great!
This property is unique and lovely but needs TLC. There are two main problems: lots of things are in disrepair and overall, it's not very comfortable. The inside furniture looks nice, but the materials and pillows are itchy! Wouldn't have been too much of a problem, but there are no throws or extra blankets around to cover up the itchy parts. In addition, I sat in two chairs that were not equipped to support a person. One has a busted through wicker seat and one has a back that is not sturdy. The bedroom linens were also sub-par. For the price of this rental, we expected nice sheets and bedding. The outside space was equally uncomfortable. There are plenty of chairs, but few little tables, no pillows, and nothing to lounge on. There is also zero landscaping, so you are surrounded by dead plants and weeds. As for the disrepair, several appliances were labeled as "do not use." When I tried to raise the blinds in the kitchen, the whole blind came crashing down on my wrist. They are nice wooden blinds, so ouch! The refrigerator looked clean and was empty, but the odor of rotten cantaloupe was so pungent we all held our breath every time we had to open the fridge. The handle of one of the bathroom drawers just came right off in my hand. The casita smelled musty, and we had to air it out for a day before anyone would sleep there. The price to rent this property indicates that it will be luxury accommodations, so we were disappointed that it was quite rustic and needs some TLC.

Annual Family Vacation
This was a great house for our group of eight adults (two families with college-age kids). The location is ideal--secluded but less than 10 minutes from the downtown area of Santa Fe, tons of hiking nearby and reasonable drive for day trips to Taos, Bandelier, and Los Alamos.
As an FYI, note the house has lots of fans but no air conditioning. At 7,000+ feet of elevation that would not normally be a problem but the week we were there afternoon highs were in the low 90's. Nights better but it did take some time for the house to cool down.
Overall though a great home base for our group. If you haven't been, go to NM. It truly is beautiful.

9 female cousins enjoyed our reunion at this beautiful home and outdoor space in Santa Fe. There was plenty of room to spread out, share, enjoy. We did lots of sightseeing but had most of our meals in the home since it was so comfy, well appointed and made socializing very easy. All 9 of us agreed it was a perfect setting for getting together.

We loved this house. It is beautiful and clean and has a great yard for evening cooking and talking around the fire. Our kids enjoyed the hot tub which was in good working condition. The house is spacious and decorated with cultural art. The beds and bedrooms were comfortable. The bathrooms were all very nice. The kitchen is user friendly and well-stocked. We loved having the adjoining apartment. Great place!

July 2023 review
We were somewhat concerned about our stay, because the property doesn't have air-conditioning and the temperature was in the low-90s during the days. However, with the fans turned on and the windows and doors opened, the entire house was pleasantly comfortable, and we all slept fine. The house is very spacious, and so more than accommodated 9 of us. We loved the large table on the shaded patio outside, where we ate all of our meals. The house had everything we needed; was clean; and everything worked (not the kitchen dishwasher, as we knew beforehand, but there is another one in the bar area, which we did not use: we simply washed dishes by hand.) The kitchen is very large; all the rooms are large. The house is only 5 minutes drive to the downtown area; it was very quiet. We had no complaints; it was an enjoyable stay!

Great place for a 70th birthday party
Our group of 12 had a wonderful time at Casa Encantado. The house and grounds were a perfect setting for a large group of friends. The host was available to help with entry with a tricky lock and the caretaker was available to meet all our requests. I highly recommend this property for any large group.

Disappointed
While the entrance was nice with new plants in the pots things quickly went sideways. In the kitchen the meat cooker and trash compactor were labeled “Out of Order”. In the bar area the ice maker and beverage cooler were also out of order. The caretaker confirmed that none of them worked and could not be repaired. We had to buy ice daily as the small ice maker in the fridge was very slow and maybe produced enough for one person.
Upon sitting down at the head of the gathering table the seat immediately gave way revealing the wicker under the thin cushion (that had clearly been put there to hide the damage) was completely smashed through). Outside the column supporting the roof over the porch as buttressed by 2”x6”s as the column was rotted at the bottom. A glance around revealed a desperate need for paint on trim, frames and columns.
The garden area had dead plants and weeds throughout. Just over the little wall was a pile of plastic containers for the long dead plants. Beyond them and behind a couple of trees was what we assumed to be the old hot tub, unceremoniously dumped in the backyard. There was also a good deal of broken glass (apparently from lots of beer bottles but also windows) along the pathways. Pots and planters around the outside fireplace contained only dead plants. Black irrigation hoses were all over but none connected.
In sum, the inside was clean but lacking in the basics for two families with kids; the outside was … well, you get the idea.
