In Rhododendron .Within a 5-minute walk of the vacation home, you'll find Sandy River and Mount Hood National Forest. The Courses at Resort at the Mountain and Salmon River are also within 6 miles (10 km).
This 1,600 sq ft cabin in Zig Zag Village sits in the woods at the foot of Mt. Hood, a drive from Government Camp and Timberline. Three bedrooms — two on the main floor with a king and a queen, and an upstairs bunk room with two bunk beds (full on bottom, twin on top) that doubles as a casual hangout space — sleep up to 10 comfortably. Two full bathrooms keep bigger groups moving in the morning.
The living room is anchored by a fireplace and opens to a kitchen set up for a real cabin meal: stove, oven, dishwasher, full cookware, dining table for the whole crew. Step out to the backyard and you've got a hot tub, fire pit, BBQ, and outdoor seating — the kind of setup where everyone lands at the end of the day. The Village HOA also gives guests shared access to the Sandy River — a short walk through the community's maintained trails. Easy spot for a morning coffee on the bank or just listening to the water. Heat, A/C, in-unit washer/dryer, and WiFi round it out. A real cabin that doesn't feel rough.

The Neighborhood:
Zig Zag Village is a quiet, wooded community at the base of Mt. Hood, east of Portland on Highway 26. Government Camp and Timberline Lodge make good destinations for a day of skiing, hiking or sledding, followed by dinner back at the cabin. Allow for traffic and mountain weather.
A few short drives and you'll find local favorites: Skyway Bar & Grill for live music and food, and the Zig Zag Inn for a classic Mt. Hood meal. There's a grocery store nearby for stocking up, plus gear rental shops in Government Camp if you forgot anything.
In summer, the Sandy River is a short walk away through the community's maintained trails, and the Salmon River, Trillium Lake, and dozens of hiking trails are all close by. In winter, it's all about the slopes — Mt. Hood Skibowl, Timberline and Mt. Hood Meadows are all mountain destinations to plan around current road conditions. Year-round, this stretch of Mt. Hood is one of Oregon's most-loved escapes, and Zig Zag Village puts you right in the middle of it.
Getting Around:
From Portland International Airport (PDX), plan your drive around current traffic and mountain weather. A car is the most practical way to explore from the cabin. Mt. Hood Express serves the Highway 26 corridor, with the Villages Shuttle running between Sandy and Rhododendron; check current stops and schedules. The cabin has off-street parking for up to 3 cars in designated spots on the side of the home.
In winter, check Oregon DOT's TripCheck for road conditions and current chain requirements before heading up. Mountain roads can get snowy overnight.
Plan day trips to Government Camp, Mt. Hood Skibowl, Trillium Lake, Timberline Lodge or Portland with current traffic and road conditions in mind.
