Casa Mist - Home Away From Home
The house which was up on a hill and very private, was surrounded by trees, bushes and plants. You could hear the ocean waves crashing onto the beaches and the various birds singing throughout the day ! So serene and quiet. Sunrises and sunsets were spectacular. Howler monkeys swung through the trees surrounding the property and were quite vocal early in the morning and early evening. The house was as described in the listing. It was very spacious and had all of the comforts of home. Air conditioners throughout the house kept living areas quite cool. We experienced an air conditioning problem in one room which was addressed by Michael. He was an excellent host responding to all of our concerns promptly. We hired the private chef to cook dinner for the first night when we arrived. We highly recommend this service as there are no places near the villa to shop for groceries that first day. You need to shop in Liberia upon your arrival or drive into Nosara to find a major supermarket. The kitchen was quite well equipped. We cooked a lot and found a few omissions of utensils and cleaning supplies which would have been helpful to have.
We really enjoyed the shaded platform next to the deck and pool. In mornings and early afternoon it was the perfect spot to exercise or practice yoga. Later in the day, heat and sun make that less pleasant. But hey it’s Costa Rica and it’s hot ! And the pool beckoned enticingly for cool-offs after.
More pool and outdoor furniture was needed. Additional lounge chairs and side tables would have made the time at the pool so much more comfortable. Sadly there were no beach chairs, umbrellas or mats available for our visits to the beach.
Playa Azul is very close to the villa, but is not the best beach at which to swim or relax on the sand. A short drive away is Playa San Juanillo and Playa Coco where there are less rip tides and plenty of trees providing shade.
There is a sign on Highway 160 indicating Ruby Sky Road. However when you drive up that last steep hill, you cannot tell that the middle of the three roads at the top is the one to the villa. There is no signage indicating Casa Mist nor does it appear on Google Maps. A 4x4 vehicle is a must for this part of the country ! If at all possible arrive during daylight hours.
Overall we really enjoyed our visit to Costa Rica and our stay at Casa Mist !
