This lakefront home is ruggedly constructed with locally-milled beams for internal framing and rafters, ceiling and walls finished in pine boards, creating a very attractive appearance. The reason for mentioning the superior construction first is because we had some windy days during our stay, and would never had known until going outside! This feature, coupled with radiant heat floors, make this house stand out among all others for a cozy winter vacation complete with snowmobiling and ice fishing.
We found the house extremely clean and check in a cinch. John and Janey are friendly, helpful, very open to communication and their response time is immediate. They turned up the radiant heat, which is extremely cozy on the feet, well before you arrive! No roughing it whatsoever, regardless of the weather!
The rooms themselves have only essential furniture and no personal effects, which eliminate the inconvenience of having to maneuver around the owners’ clutter as is most often the case. For a stay other than a long weekend, I would like to have had a dresser for my clothes, otherwise living out of a suitcase for a few days is no big deal. The beds were made nicely, the linens were clean, sheets and towels were stored neatly on shelves, and you have a utility room with washer and dryer at your disposal.
From this scenic lakefront location, you can easily carry-in to launch your boat or canoe, or rent either one from the owners, otherwise with a sizable motor boat, you would put in at the picturesque town landing about 4 miles from the house.
West Grand Lake is one of the seven cleanest lakes in the State of Maine, so you should prepare yourselves for a rare experience, swimming in crystal-clear water, or being able to see the fish you are trying to coax onto your hook! In retrospect, spearing one would have been easier, for me at least. Either way, enjoy!
