Point Reyes Garden House Getaway in the Nicasio Valley

Garden House is located in Marin County on the wooded flanks of Black Mountain overlooking the Nicasio Valley Watershed. The home is secluded on an 11-acre site, off a gated private road, surrounded by 120 acres of ranch land. This very specially designed single story home is set among oak, bay trees, and an all year stream that flows to the valley reservoir. A few steps from the house stands a spring fed pond partially surrounded by redwood trees. A deck and a shaded picnic table are at one end of this tranquil pond. Adjacent to the house is a lovely vegetable and flower garden that guests may use to enhance their meals or just to enjoy its sights and sounds. This is the Backdrop for your stay at the Garden House.

This house is designed for a great “Stay at Home” experience. It is a Space and a Place for a family gathering or a group of several friends who simply want to stay home, relax and enjoy the company of one another. Many guests simply want to enjoy the serenity and privacy of the Garden House without having to venture out. However, the town of Point Reyes Station and the National Seashore are both a short drive away. The small three block long town has great restaurants and unique shops. And of course, The nearby, National Seashore offers whale watching, breathtaking beaches, miles of hiking trails and kayaking on Tomales Bay. The Seashore is truly one of the most unique places on earth.

The modern, architect designed, house features a distinctly furnished “Great Room” with 1,000 square feet of living space for guests that love to share food preparation and the whole cooking and eating experience. Central to this room is a custom built Ash wood table that comfortably seats up to 12 guests. The cooking and food preparation area occupies a commanding portion of the common space and is extremely well equipped. The kitchen features a commercial Wolf stove, Sub Zero refrigerator, dishwasher, custom stainless steel counters and an extensive pantry with an array of tabletop appliances. All the necessary cookware, tableware and flatware one could imagine are provided. Frankly, this is a "Foodie" paradise. There is a TV/Media Center with a sofa and twin Eames lounge chairs for relaxed conversation or entertainment after dinner. Soft gallery lighting focuses on artwork around the room depicting the landscapes and ranches of the Nicasio Valley. And of course, after dinner someone is likely to play the piano!

The Master Bedroom Suite is large and very private with a king size bed. A stunning window wall with a Bay Tree view, dominates the space. The room has a TV/ Media Center and a small sofa that converts into a full bed for use in this room if needed. The adjoining large, private, well-appointed master bath with euro-style fixtures and large glass enclosed shower completes the master suite.

The second bedroom located at the opposite end of the main living space has a queen bed. This room also has an integrated office /work space for the person that just cannot get away from "work". It has an individual entrance off the south facing entry courtyard. The second bathroom, with glass enclosed shower is adjacent to this bedroom. This bathroom also is available to guests from the rest of the house.
Additionally, there is a sleep sofa in the living area that can accommodate two guests

The gated entry courtyard provides a large private outdoor space for guests to gather on the sunny side of the house. A shade canopy covers a seating area particularly comfortable for morning coffee and evening gatherings. There is a deck and terraced garden on the shade side of the house with a Gas BBQ, table and benches.

Be sure to view all the photographs with descriptive captions as they provide a real sense of the Garden House and all it has to offer. Included in the photo gallery is a floor plan of the Garden House and its surroundings, which provide a clearer understanding of this unique space.

If you would like to expand the sleeping capacity of the Garden House so it can handle up to 10 guests , there is additional accommodations in an adjacent dwelling. This two house combination can be searched and viewed as VRBO property #1480714

Wonderful stay

The house was even better than pictures. We could tell the owner really paid a lot of attention to the design. Our kids had fun with the puzzles and there were a couple of kids books as well. The location is a short drive to Point Reyes Station where there are a few good restaurants and a grocery store. There is also a plug for a 32A Tesla charger so you can use it if you bring your mobile charger.

A perfect family, friends and writers’ retreat

Such a pleasure to return again and again. To notice the little improvements that the owner, Roger, and his lovely assistant, Nanci make each time to make guests feel welcome and cozy. Roger is always helpful and gracious host. This time I noticed the new gray pillows on the red leather couch and the cozy Native American style blanket. Perfect color match as always. Makes the TV area, for friends and family to gather. Perfect. Great place also to relax and read when it rains, or when you are tired. This time a new and inviting tea selection for every part of the day welcome me. And the Nespresso machine and coffee pods helps make sure that you are awake and ready for the pleasures of the compound and Point Reyes National Park treasures. Great place to stay shine, rain, or rainbow. Thank you, Roger! I can’t wait to return soon.

As always a deeply satisfying place to re-visit

I already gave a number of 5 stars to the Garden House during past stays. The house, the art, the view, Roger (the gracious host), the vegetable garden with tasty little cherry tomatoes, the Lily Pond, are simply perfection. It is not, however, an empty perfection. The whole project and environment possesses simplicity, harmony, beauty and truth. Thank you Roger for sharing your life dream with us. I already gave a number of 5 stars reviews to the "Garden House" for past stays. What else can I say? So here is another variation of the praise: The house, the art, the view, Roger (the gracious host), the vegetable garden (this time with tasty little cherry tomatoes), the Lily Pond, Nancy's presence, and everything else is simply perfection. It is not, however, an empty, or cold perfection. The whole project and environment possesses simplicity, harmony, beauty and truth. Thank you Roger for sharing your life dream with us.

The perfect host, the perfect location

This house is special. It is located on the wooded side of a mountain overlooking the Nicasio Reservior, just five minutes from Point Reyes Station. The house is designed and built by its owner, industrial designer. This house is a pleasure to stay in, and the host is extremely attentive, while being very respectful of our privacy. It was very spacious for our family of 4 and could take more if necessary. We will certainly return.

Beauty indoors and out

The flow of space inside and out invites one to just be. Extra touches like full stocked kitchen, inspiring art, peaceful pond, just add to the experience. Amazing shower. Comfy beds - even the futon sofa in main room. We needed an extea kitchen item and roger brought it over immediately. Five of us never felt crowded - even with one reading and two playing games at table and two working in kitchen. Few kitchens are set up for 3-4 people to be prepping at same time - but this one was perfect. Above all, we were in awe of the vision and engineering skill that Roger brought to this property. Thank you from our family!

The Garden House: A perfect retreat in Northern California

We had another wonderful stay at the Garden House. This is our fourth, or perhaps fifth stay (we lost track) during the past couple of years. As I wrote this past April “what praises can we write that we didn’t already mention in our previous reviews?” The place is immaculate, spacious, and so harmoniously and tasteful designed and furnished. This time we also enjoyed the small Japanese-like pond with a table and chairs close by. The water was clear reflecting the tall trees above. The pink water lilies were in full bloom. The pond with the lilies was like a beautiful Monet painting that you don’t only look at, but that you can step into enjoying the tranquility, while having a picnic, and realizing that despite the worrisome state of our world, life can be still peaceful and beautiful.

A rare retreat nestled in the midst of the rolling green hills

Another wonderful stay at the Garden House. This was our third time vacationing here during the past year. What praises can we write that we didn’t already mention in our previous reviews? The place is still immaculate, comfortable and so harmoniously and tasteful furnished. This Easter week hills where lush green and carpeted with some Lupine purple patches along the road leading to the house. Lovely California orange poppies welcomed us as we drove to the house. The vegetable garden was inviting. We cut some fresh parsley for our breakfast omelet. Catherine invited us to help ourselves with some of the Swiss Chard that looked amazing. We didn’t have a chance to do that. We drove a few times to Brickmaiden Bakery in Point Reyes. It had some delectable pizzettes and cookies. We highly recommend it. As always Roger and Catherine were gracious and attentive hosts. The only problem that we had was feeling somewhat sad when leaving the compound. Even after staying here for 8 days. The Garden House is such a perfect retreat. We can’t wait to return in May.

Exquisite home in a bucolic surrounding

We so enjoyed our stay at the Garden House. It is a flawless and inviting home nestled in the beautiful hills of Nicasio. The house layout, furniture, décor and art are exceptionally harmonious and tasteful, while at the same time inviting, comfortable and relaxing. We very much appreciated the great attention that the owners have paid to all the many details that makes this a real home away from home. Roger, the owner provided us with a gracious and warm hospitality. We returned to our San Francisco home rejuvenated and we can't wait to return to the Garden House in a couple of months.

Tranquility

The Garden House is a very unique stay. The descriptions of previous guests had us anticipating exactly what we enjoyed. Roger was there for each and every question. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t what we had hoped for so our day trips were either abbreviated or changed but that’s certainly no reflection on this choice of VRBO. While we opted not to do any cooking while here, the kitchen was tremendously equipped for days and days of meal prep. Very thoughtful touches throughout. Complete enjoyment. A power outage and heavy storm prior to our arrival had us needing some help with hot water flow and an ant trail; meanwhile high winds and dropping nuts on a tin roof took some getting used to in the night. But again, no fault of the homeowner. Thanks for the hospitality, Roger.
