Annual fall golf trip

8 Adults stayed at the home which allowed adequate room for sleeping and meal preparation. The location was not as convenient as we envisioned, but located in a quiet neighborhood.

Wedding Stay with big Family

Really nice location; house was big enough for our family to spread out and not be on top of each other. In town for our son's wedding and we had 7 adults 40-91 and 3 kids 4-12 years old, plus other family over at some point in stay. Overall a very nice property and we would rent again if the occasion arose. After a discussion with all our family, a few things would have had it a 5 star property instead of 4. No towel bars in hall or 1/2 baths; low water pressure hall bath; hot H2O faucet in K bath usable but broken. No kitchen dish towels or hand towels for baths; and overall just quite not enough towels - one towel for each guest only, could have used a few more. TV room great. However, sliding door to screened in porch area could not be opened, nor could the other sliding door to deck area - deck accessible thru regular door only. Kayaks/life jackets were nice touch, as Dad of 3 girls took them out for a short ride on the lake. Plenty of silverware and glasses was nice. The two tables were great to fit everyone for meals. Big fridge and coffee maker with filters was appreciated. Kitchen could use a few more dishes that you could use in the microwave to heat things (like a set of Pyrex bowls, 8X8 glass pan) but we made do. Most other reviews maintenance items have been taken care of. Parking is accurate - we had 3 SUVs parked without an issue. Beds were comfortable and showers were nice. Loved the bunnies, birds, turtles, ducks and squirrels! Thanks for a nice stay.

The house isn't well maintained. At all. BYOB vacuum cleaner, exterminator, and a handyman.

This property was bad in so many ways, and such a letdown that I'm sure where to start. I'm mostly disappointed with VRBO for offering a property like this in the first place. This is not the great stay they promised. Here are a few examples of the issues we experienced: Overall, the house has been neglected and not properly maintained. The master bathroom door barely hangs off the hinge so it wouldn't close. The curtain rings are the wrong size, so it is nearly impossible to open and close them. There are exposed wires sticking out from a hole in wall in the kitchen, mildew/wood rot in the upstairs bathroom, and downstairs has a hole in the wall where a towel holder used to be. More importantly, several safety issues exist such as 1) the railing at the top of the stairs being so wobbly that we were afraid someone might try to use it and have a fall. 2) There are small nails poking up in the carpeting on the stairs that will poke you if you step on the wrong spot. And then there are the cleanliness issues. The major one being the number of bugs and spiderwebs all over the house—inside and out. The room my girls stayed in had a window that was non-functioning and stuck in a slightly open position, which also allowed critters to enter the room. Dead bugs were smashed on the walls, and spiders have moved in for the feast. Live spiders and children usually don't make a great mix, so the girls opted to sleep downstairs on a soft vs. being in a room with "icky bugs". I don’t know who “cleans” this house before each new guest, but they do a laughable job. It may be too much for a cleaning service, and they need an exterminator. I wish I could post the video of all the spiderwebs in and around every single window. There were numerous smaller ‘nuisance’ issues. Minor issues that are normally overlooked now add insult to injury of the entire experience at this property. Notably, the bare cabinets in the kitchen and laundry room prompting a last-minute trip to the grocery store to purchase basic household supplies: trash bags, air freshener, laundry detergent, etc. I don’t expect a stocked pantry, but it was glaring how empty all the shelves were of common supplies. I took photos of the issues so I wouldn’t forget them all, and have considered posting them online as a warning to others. The location is quiet & peaceful, the outside deck has a nice view of the water. Unfortunately, those are the only positive things I have to say

Extended Family Vacation

There was a total of 10 of us who stayed at the property. House was exactly as listed. Plenty of room for all of us. Our favorite part was the fact the dining table fit all 10 of us comfortably. Quiet neighborhood, great location. When we arrived, none of the beds were made, vacuum was left out. A call to the owner revealed the dryer stopped working and the cleaners had to go to the laundry mat. She was very polite and apologetic. She even purchased us dinner. Other than that, which was through no one’s fault, we had a great stay.

Perfect for family gathering!

Excellent home for a family gathering. Beautifully located on small lake in quiet neighborhood with plenty of beds for the family. Great view. Dining table fit all 9 of us for sit-down meals.

Convenient to everything but secluded when you want it

Property Manager was very responsive and easy to work with. Property location was perfect for day trips to VA Beach and Busch Gardens. The house itself was nice for most part, but some things do require maintenance. Was very nice having a pretty large breakfast nook table and a gigantic dining table as well. Kitchen was well stocked and easy to prepare meals in. Family Room has nice large sectional to relax in. There is a nice sitting/reading area as well. All the decks need major maintenance, some might even need complete overhauls. The master BR floor was uneven. Some doors were hard to open/close. These are minor things but the major obstacle for us was only 2 full bathrooms. Some traffic control was needed for 7 people. Every bedroom has a TV, which was nice. The street itself is very peaceful, we sat out for a few hours at night and it was great just enjoying the weather and quiet. Overall, a 4 star but could turn into a 5 if some updating was done. Would book again if in the area.

Location good but property needs some maintenance and updates.

Property maintenance was lacking - and some maintenance work was sub-standard. Upstairs hall bathroom doors did not close properly; and powder room door was actually too big preventing it from closing. Some painting had not been finished around edges and actually painted over a small size hole in the wall. Needs maintenance and a good thorough cleaning inside and out. Screens and doors to deck areas need repair and cleaning. Some deck boards rotted. Could not get fire table to work - need instructions or repair. Master Bedroom sheets had big holes - pictures available

Stay in the Newport News Area

The view from the back of the house is beautiful and very relaxing. There is a small dock where we enjoyed the wonderful fall weather. The house was clean, so previous reviews about poor cleaning practices were corrected. It is in a quiet, peaceful area that was perfect for our purposes.

Beautiful location

This is a large house in a very nice location. Unfortunately, it was not cleaned properly before our arrival. As a matter of fact, the cleaning crew was still in the house when we got there, about 30 min after the check-in time and we had to wait outside for another 20-30 min until they finished. When we entered the house, it was obvious that they rushed the cleaning. There were spider webs in the corners, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, wet towels in the washing machine, the refrigerator not cleaned, the carpet, and especially the one on the stairs not vacuumed, and many other issues.

Beautiful home. Miscommunication on checkin

Home was beautiful. But it had not be turned over and cleaned for our arrival. The owner responded very quickly and sent the cleaning team. But we ended up canceling our stay. The owner was very professional about it, and fully refunded our stay. Overall, the location and home was really nice. Wish it worked out. May be best to double check with the owner a day or two before arrival that it will be ready. We would have given 3 stars instead of two had we not read this happened in the past to another family.

Great experience

We had a family group of 10 and we loved the house. It was perfect for us. So much room to relax in and plenty of rooms/beds to sleep in. There was a full supply of dishes and flatwear. We cooked most of our own meals and ate in. One night we even used the grill. My younger granddaughter enjoyed being outside on the swing or sitting out back. Any questions we had, Carla in guest services answered right away. Would definitely rent again!

Property Needs Love, Responsive Owner

This property has a lot of potential. It is in a great location, great layout and lots of space, next to a cute little inlet. Having said that, the property needs a lot of love. There are repairs and a deep clean needed to the property. Ultimately Allen (the owner) was responsive and seemed to genuinely care about the things that we found at the property. Because of this we would consider coming back to the property a second time. At the end of the day I could tell that the state of the house was due to previous guests. I hope that the property gets some TLC as it has so much potential to be an amazing vacation spot.

Good/relaxing stay

The property is beautiful and accommodating up to 12 people. It includes everything that family needs for a short or long stay. The only issue we had was that all pods and pans were so dirty; it seems that cleaning was not properly done before our stay. We had to clean everything before cooking and took us longer to clean because they were so greasy and messy! Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay!

Weekend tournament with Moms and players

Booking was smooth and precheck-in communication was smooth and appreciated. Arrival to the property after a longer than expected drive brought us to realize that the house was not cleaned after the previous renters departed. It was after 9pm and we immediately emailed the property manager and left a message. We did not immediately hear from anybody that evening and fortunately we immediately went into ‘Mom-mode’ and cleaned the entire house. 7am we rec’d a call from Carla…she was amazing. We had a conversation and I explained our experience and she was so apologetic and already had a cleaning crew enroute..which we asked her to cancel due to sleeping kids and the fact that we already cleaned. I expected the cleaning fee to removed, but Carla arranged for a much larger refund for our trouble. I cannot tell you how much we appreciated her understanding and continuous apologetic stance…and the incredibly generous refund. Most importantly and most appreciated was that she gave no excuses and she took responsibility (a trait that seems to be rare)…we all were incredibly impressed with her professionalism. Carla explained how the process would be handled even though she had never had this happen before. She sent a statement and answered all of our questions with impeccable professionalism. We would easily work with VRBO again. Although we were inconvenienced, by an oversight of likely a keystroke error, we would truly recommend this way of team building and memory making!!! The house was exceptional and perfect for our needs, with a very well stocked kitchen (cookware, utensils glassware), beautiful lakefront view plenty of off street parking (we had 4 vehicles but could have 5 in driveway ) and never once did we struggle for space needs inside or outside of this property! Beautiful property, amazing customer service…ready for another tournament!!🏀 Thank you again, Carla!!

Good for our family

We enjoyed our stay. Pros: Tree swing- the swing in the front yard is great. My kids loved it! Beds- very comfy, clean Bedrooms- good size, great bunk room for kids. Plenty of room for a large group to rest comfortably Bathrooms- updated, clean, plenty of towels Kitchen- nice size, modern, updated Dining table- huge! Great for a large gathering Layout of house- unique, lots of seating, comfortable Washer/dryer- very convenient Location- in a quiet neighborhood, less than 30 mins to Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, 45 mins from Norfolk naval ships, zoo, also grocery stores and shops located nearby. Lake- small lake, a bit “buggy”- could’ve been time off year we visited. Kayaks on property were fun to use, good amount of life vests, newer dock. Cons- House could use some cosmetic updates, painting, patching of walls, cleaning of the grill. Dishwasher in kitchen works but does not clean dishes well, so we ended up washing everything by hand. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
