What a wonderful stay at the Royal Lion. We only stayed for the one night but we made the most of it by booking a table in the restaurant for dinner which was lovely. Plenty of delicious options to chose from. The hotel has ple tu of parking and conveniently right in the centre of lyme regis so an easy stroll to the beach and around the shops. There is a pool but unfortunately you have to book a time slot and all they had available was during our dinner reservation. If we were able to book in we definitely would have used this. One note to make is that we had a room at the front of the hotel which i love (i love to people watch) but i think there was bin men or a delivery very early in the morning so was very noisy. The hotel 2as clean and the room beautiful. Also want to note how lovely the staff were. Very impressed and would love to stay again.

Old world hospitality and charm

Lovely old-fashioned hotel with lots of charm. Many comfortable places to sit and enjoy the ambiance with a drink. This is not a noisy sports pub -- this is a pleasant community place to relax with friends for a quiet conversation. The room we were in was spacious and comfortable, with high ceilings and a window that actually opened to allow fresh air in -- many modern hotels have sealed windows. There's also a fan provided which is a necessity on hot nights as there's no air conditioning. The bed was comfortable, but a bit short -- I'm over 6 feet tall and my feet hung off the end! The shower was adequate with lots of hot water, but the pressure was a bit low. Breakfast was comprehensive with freshly prepared hot food made to order -- none of those buffet trays of lukewarm, tasteless food that most hotels provide. The staff were friendly and helpful. There's plenty of parking in the back for guests, although some spaces were tricky to maneuver into with my large van. The hotel is right in the heart of Lyme Regis so it's easy to walk anywhere. Bottom line -- my wife and I will definitely stay here again if we return to Lyme Regis.

A really lovely old hotel in an amazing location for Lyme Regis. We have stayed here three times now and really like it. However the room we were in this time was an upgrade, and whilst it was nice, for the price we paid, we felt the shower was very outdated with very low water pressure. Management told us that these rooms are due an upgrade which I think would be very worthwhile.

Communal areas in the hotel/pub were good & the pool was better than the photos looked but the rooms let it down. They’re tired, need a paint & new carpet. Shower needs a good clean as mouldy. Luckily we didn’t need to spend too much time in the room. Bed was small - barely a double & even my feet stuck out the end - I’m only 5ft 4!

Staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. The building is very old with a lot of history. The rooms are clean and comfortable but as it’s a very old building the bedroom floors was very squeaky but this was the only negative I have about my stay here.

This is a quirky property due to its age but the accommodation was excellent. Having parking is such an asset in Lyme Regis too. We had a room with a balcony which was perfect for sitting doing nothing but the hotel had a comfortable lounge too. Breakfast felt rather grand in the panelled room but we had easy access from our room rather than up the main staircase. Staff were welcoming and friendly. It was only the visit to the kitchen by the Health and Safety Officer that caused the chief problems but that means rules are being observed for all!!

This hotel absolutely made my trip. Great location, really friendly staff who juggled rooms so I could stay on. Breakfast was fabulous, amazing veggie choices, absolute abundance set me up famously for the day ahead. Really think this was great value and a pleasure.

An old hotel with a lot of charm. Staff were excellent although we were served breakdast by a guy in scruffy shorts,. The bedroom & bathroom was large and had all you would need but underbed cleanliness was a miss, didnt look like it had been cleaned and one devan bed base was falling apart. The beds were comfortable though and we slept well. All in all enjoyed the stay just attention to detail needed in rooms.

Charming Period Hotel

Enjoyed the Royal Lion especially the location and free parking. We were allowed to park before check in time and after check out time which was particularly valuable for central Lyme Regis. The location in the heart of the town was ideal, we didn’t need the car at all during our stay. The hotel was very clean and freshly painted, but furniture and fittings a little dated. Our room sloped a bit, but all part of the charm of a period hotel. Reception efficient but not overly welcoming, which one generally expects in these times. On the whole we would recommend and would stay again.

Royal Lion Hotel, Lyme Regis

Cleanliness was excellent. Housekeeping staff very pleasant and nothing too much trouble. Beautifully laundered white bedding and towels. Good food. Breakfast served in pleasant upstairs dining room. Evening meal served in the bar downstairs. Very well located for shops, promenade and public transport.

Great staff. Comfortable room with terrace and sea view. Characterful bar area. The swimming pool wasn’t available. The rear of the building facing the car park needs attention. This is particularly important as we had to walk pass the area to get to our room. Our second visit…Will visit again.
